News And Announcements - Icy Phoenix 2.0 RC 1

Post subject: Icy Phoenix 2.0 RC 1
Hi all,
I'm glad to announce that Icy Phoenix 2.0 RC 1 is available for downloads.

What's New Respect To Latest Stable Release

  • CMS recoded with many AJAX features
  • Plugins System with ACP modules and specific permissions that could be managed through CMS
  • Cache Functions ported from phpBB 3
  • DB Class ported from phpBB 3
  • User Class ported from phpBB 3
  • Auth System ported from phpBB 3 and integrated into CMS and Plugins
  • Many Core Functions ported from phpBB 3
  • Almost all core SQL checked and rewritten
  • New classes coded to improve useability and simplify coding and modding
  • Optimized templates parsing
  • New Mobile style (automatically detected)
  • Improved SEO functions
  • Revamped AJAX Chat with Private Rooms
  • Brand new Tags, Share and Likes features
  • Custom BBCodes in ACP
  • Multiple Vote Polls
  • Many smaller updates and features... install the latest version to enjoy them all!

Old templates: please note that the template system has been totally revamped, so templates designed for Icy Phoenix 1.3.0.53 or below won't work at all with this version. At the moment apart of the styles included in the installation package only proSilver is available over GIT: Icy Phoenix Styles @ GIT.

Translations: please note that lang packs for Icy Phoenix 1.3.0.53 won't work with this version. Lang packs need to be updated before you can use them on your site. I will update all lang files in download section as soon as translators will send me their latest release. You can find latest development translations here: Icy Phoenix Languages @ GIT.

Customizations And Mods: please note that this version has many core code differences from the previous one, so it is really unlikely that old customizations and mods will work on this beta release. If you currently have some mods installed and you cannot update them on your own, you should be aware that you will not able to use those old mods until someone is going to update them.

Requirements
Before trying to install Icy Phoenix make sure you have the following STRICTLY NEEDED requirements:
  • At least 20 MB of free space in the folder you would like to install the package
  • Web server with PHP (5.2 or higher) installed and running (works best on Linux + Apache)
  • MySQL (5 or higher) database with at least 5MB of free space (of course the space needed depends on how big your site will be... 5MB is enough for a basic empty setup)
  • Ability to set CHMOD permissions

These other requirements (even if not strictly needed) are suggested for optimal performance of Icy Phoenix:
  • Webserver with .htaccess capability
  • Apache Rewrite Mod installed and running
  • GD Libraries (at least 2.0.28) installed and running
  • Register Globals set to OFF

Fresh Installation
  1. Unpack Icy Phoenix package to one folder on your HD.
  2. Copy all Icy Phoenix files in one folder on your webserver (i.e. /icyphoenix/)
  3. Set the permissions to CHMOD 777 to the following files and folders (please note that you may not have all of them in your setup):
    • backup/
    • cache/
    • cache/cms/
    • cache/forums/
    • cache/posts/
    • cache/sql/
    • cache/topics/
    • cache/users/
    • downloads/
    • files/
    • files/album/
    • files/album/cache/
    • files/album/med_cache/
    • files/album/users/
    • files/album/wm_cache/
    • files/posted_images/
    • files/screenshots/
    • files/thumbs/
    • images/avatars/
    • logs/
    • logs/logfile_attempt_counter.txt
    • logs/logfile_blocklist.txt
    • logs/logfile_debug_mode.txt
    • logs/logfile_malformed_logins.txt
    • logs/logfile_spammer.txt
    • logs/logfile_worms.txt

  4. Launch the setup from the install folder: install/install.php (i.e. http://www.mysite.com/forum/install/install.php)
  5. Follow all the instructions on the screen, fill all requested data and complete the setup
  6. Delete or rename install folder
  7. Customize what needs to be customized in files and db (some files needs to be edited manually, while most of the options may be set in ACP and CMS)
  8. Enjoy your New Site

How To Upgrade From Older Icy Phoenix Versions
  1. Lock the site from ACP
  2. Make a full backup of your website (both files and DB)
  3. Remove all old Icy Phoenix files, but make sure you are not deleting other stuff you may need!
  4. When deleting files, pay particular attention to custom files and folders like these:
    • config.php
    • backup/
    • downloads/
    • images/
    • files/
    • logs/

  5. Copy all new Icy Phoenix files into your root
  6. Make sure you apply the right CHMOD permissions as listed in the Fresh Installation section above
  7. Copy install/convert_utf8_nodbal.php to your website root and launch it (this is needed to convert your old DB to UTF-8)
  8. Delete convert_utf8_nodbal.php from your root
  9. Launch install/database_update.php and update your DB
  10. Delete or rename install folder
  11. Customize what needs to be customized in files and db (some files needs to be edited manually, while most of the options may be set in ACP and CMS)
  12. Enjoy your New Site

Post subject: Re: Icy Phoenix 2.0 RC 1
First of all i want thank you all again for your Excellent Work.
Icy Phoenix is the Best CMS ever made.

Secondly i want to confirm that all old Styles are working just fine with new version without BUGs or some minor bugs which are very hard to see them.
In my Site right now i have 30 Skins of the older version working just fine and you can see them Here (www.diadoseto.gr)

The only trick i made to make them work just fine was to copy the common.css from the old version IP on /templates/default folder.
Now all of 30 skins used are working fine.
With this trick with any clean install of Icy Phoenix 2.0 RC 1 (First Time install) you can use all the older version of Skins.

I know that this is not a fix but until all skins recoded for the new templates, is a solution for all those need to Upgrade right now without loose their current skins.

I also found many bugs on IP and Plugins, and i will help this nice community to fix them ASAP.
My Site must open at 01/06/2012, so i must hurry a bit...

Thanks again for your work and soon will have news also from me regarding the Translation for Greek Language.

Dimitris Dagalidis (AKA Lost_Animal)

Quote:
And 1 small problem with the download database (pafiledb) is that i can't write some special characters, which are often used in hungarian words, e.g á é í ó ö ő ú ü ű. When I write one of these in a category or download's name, it simply writes ? marks instead of the characters.

Thanks for fixing it. But it also happens at the name of the Download Database, blocks, and link names, etc.

Another thing: when i want to add/edit a menu or a menuitem, it says:
Code: [Hide] [Select]
[Icy Phoenix Debug] PHP Notice: in file /cms_menu.php on line 940: Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
[Icy Phoenix Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions.php on line 5139: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /includes/functions.php:5889)

Hello MG
I want to ask you if it is safe to do what the user "lostanimal" suggested,
in order to make use of all the old templates even in this new BETA version

Yros [ Thu 24 May, 2012 05:43 ]
Post subject: Re: Icy Phoenix 2.0 RC 1
it is perfectly safe. you can also open your file my_skin.css and update the beginning instead (safer):
Code: [Hide]
  1. @import url("../common/common.css");
  2. @import url("../common/common_dropdown.css");
  3. @import url("../common/common_colors.css");
  4. @import url("../common/fap.css");

great release MG. Very good work.

Edit: May I suggest that Lighting becomes the new default template of Icy Phoenix ? (or at least is incorporated in the default package). It would be really appreciated to be able to start working on a fresh forum with a decent template, and not a simple blank template.

This is also an other option, but in my case (30+ themes) i was too lazy to change all of them.

An other "fix" for those don't like to have limited text area on forum post specially on fluid themes....

max_width

no_max_width

OPEN templates/common/common.css
FIND
Code: [Hide] [Select]
/* Overflows */
.topic-title-hide-flow-header { min-width: 280px; max-width: 680px; overflow: hidden !important; }
.topic-title-hide-flow { min-width: 280px; max-width: 400px; overflow: hidden !important; }
.post-subject { overflow: hidden; white-space: nowrap; max-width: 500px; }
.post-text-hide-flow {
overflow: auto;
max-width: 960px;
}

REPLACE WITH
Code: [Hide] [Select]
/* Overflows */
.topic-title-hide-flow-header { min-width: 280px; max-width: 680px; overflow: hidden !important; }
.topic-title-hide-flow { min-width: 280px; max-width: 400px; overflow: hidden !important; }
.post-subject { overflow: hidden; white-space: nowrap; max-width: 500px; }
.post-text-hide-flow {
overflow: auto;
/* max-width: 960px; */
}

I can set your posts number to 20 posts
It is because of the spamfighter... you can post images, but the URL is broken for "normal" users.
That changed automaticly, if you reach a number of posts. Think it is 10 at IcyPhoenix.com

EDIT: Or maybe 5 posts

It depends on the style you are updating.

Some styles have also some TPLs which have been edited, so just editing CSS it's not enough / safe.

As a general rule if you don't see any TPL file in the template folder, then it's almost enough doing that.

I have already updated all my templates, but I'm not releasing them until official release, because I don't have the time to update all styles on a regular basis.

Problem: when Calendar is set up, we can't access group page nor profiles edit.
Code: [Hide]
  1. Fatal error: Call to undefined method stdClass::parse() in /includes/functions_calendar.php on line 395

Don't have the files nor the time here (i'm not home) to check & suggest a fix, sorry.

Edit: new bug found: in viewtopic.php, the name of the topic (at the top, above "Post a new topic " / " Reply ") isn't the right one. I must precise: the "name" of the topic is wrong (it shows the name of another topic -this is fix, which means in every topic I go I see the same topic name-) BUT the link is right.

You can check it here: http://crazy-house.eg2.fr/viewtopic.php?f=7&p=26#p26
The topic name is " Guild Wars 2 " (check the message) BUT it shows " Vous faîtes un donjon ? " instead (the topic " Vous faites un donjon ? " contains an event + a calendar alert, does it matter ?)

Edit2: the first bug (about the calendar) is only available when there's an event/topic showed in the calendar. When it's empty there's no problem.

If you are going to update your websites as well, make sure you read this file Icy Phoenix - Readme English, and in particular this section Upgrade From Icy Phoenix 1.3 Or Above, otherwise your old images will be missing.

Hi Costa,

why do you think it is not working?
It should work I guess.

What have you done to test it? Fresh installation or a update of your forum?

This step is necessary to convert your db to utf-8
Mighty Gorgon wrote: [View Post]
7. Copy install/convert_utf8_nodbal.php to your website root and launch it (this is needed to convert your old DB to UTF-8)
