phpBB 3 MODS And Styles (Not Compatible With phpBB 3.1) - Black Pearl - Strange Sizes

Post subject: Black Pearl - Strange Sizes
(problem is solved. see next postings please!)

Hi there!

First of all, my english is more than bad. So i'm sorry if you like to laugh sometimes.

So my problem is with Black Pearl and phpbb 3.0.6 (width in postings)

I don't know how and i don't know why this problem exists but 80% of my posts pushes my black pearl to over the original size of the forum ( i guess 960px, wrapper?).
The new "pushed" width is (i think) round'bout 1040px.
It's getting me really tired!

So i have to edit/copy and then delete the posting to make the same posting as a new one and the width is back to normal.
REALLY strange!
I remember on my older forum with black bearl (phpbb3 rc5) there i had the same problem in those days. so i decided to make all new/fresh install.
(the width was partial to over 1100px)

But however: I have to edit/copy/delete and remaking all the previous postings in my new forum for a normal width with black pearl.
Is this a known problem??? Could i fix that with a simple code/sql-code? (really don't know, sry)

Remember:
This "anti-960px"-Problem exists only in the postings wich i had make where i installed my forum. Now after some modifications are the old postings in a new width (round about 1040px) and this getting me really crazy because everything what i do doesn't works.
Example: I edit the stylesheet.css to another size (#wrapper) - no effects.
I had searched in mysql/phpmyadmin and i can't find anything about the postings-width.

But why is this so?
If i make a new posting it seems to be allright. but the old ones....

Please, can you help? It's really anoying to edit/copy/delete/remake ALL my old posts.

~~~
EDIT:
And can you help me for changing the (topic icon) image_size in "viewforum_body.html"? (i guess i'm right there?)
Anything what i change (width from 25px to 75px) don't works.
EDIT 2:
I found the reason for the strange size.
If i click the sub-forum, the link is:
http://ma-url.lol/viewtopic.php?t=4&f=18 and the oversize appears
NOW, if i copy this link and delete the &f=18 the thread looks normal.
Cool!
Ok and now i click again in my thread and the link is normal again:
http://ma-url.lol/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4
Whats going on there? Uhhh, scary...
Hi Ikel (i refuse to type your full name LOL),
For your first problem it might be good to give a link to some example, you may also want to read this http://www.icyphoenix.com/viewtopic...ht=width#p46186
I'm also unshure what you mean by "pushed width" and where you "pushed" that, do you mean you adjusted the overal width? if yes, did you do that in _mg_config.html? Thats where you should do that in case you did not!
Your second problem:
If you mean the first icon (new post, no new post etc), there 's two ways.. you can edit the imageset in ACP(settings will be lost if imageset is refreshed) or for more permanent setting in /styles/black_pearl/imageset/imageset.cfg (the numbers in there are the size)
If you mean the icon a user may attach to the post you can look at ACP >> posting >> topic icons >> edit
or edit the /images/icons/icons.pak before installing them
I hope this helped alittle
PS don t forget to purge the cache, refresh whatever is needed and clear your browser if you don t see the edits after making them
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
That's funny. You know what? You never think of this what i did just before you posting:
NOT "only" clear the phpbb-cache, no, but also the Template, too!!!
(the other topic you postet i allready knew it)
The funny thing on that is, i've never knew this. I've ever thought just "actualize" the Template (in ACP/Styles/Templates) is enough (i read this in much other forums).
UHH in english is soo hard to explain that all. I have to think about every word i type.
So, just COMPLETE clearing the "Cache" from the Template was allright and my forum is completly bugless.
NICE!
WOHA i luv this Black Pearl.
Ok now that's just solved.
The other problem is also solved, too.
In this case i also don't knew this with the imageset in the ACP because i edited alwas via html/editor/ftp if you know what i mean. just manually.
This way you told me is very useful and i learn every day more about the best forum phpBB 3.x in this world.
So thank you very much for helping me!
Best Wishes, merry christmas and a happy new year, your (Test) ikel *lol*
EDIT: ah no wait.......
if you read this post and hover on *LOL* ... <= how did you make this?
I want this, too!
It is called Acronyms mod and it is configurable in ACP.
I don't know if it is available for phpBB 3, try to search @ phpbb.com
Just a short reply because of the acronymus mod.
I found a very good mod for phpbb3.x:
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=584656
It's called lexicon 0.1.5 and is very handy to use (via ACP).
Thx again to you all.
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
thanks for the link but since it's been in alpha stage about 2 years and still in "under development section" after all this time, i wonder are you allready using it? and if yes ..does it have any bugs or problems?
looking at the last postdate there i asume it's for phpbb3.x but giving it a quick read i did not find a clue about that either
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
Hi again^^
Yeah i will try to install this tonight (with one another mod).
The install-xml says that is proved with 3.0.4 so i have no worries about this hot shiat. ^^
And the last edit from the post (download link above) was on Feb 19, 2009.
In every case: I hope that will be works and i will show you the results here in this thread.
Please be patience... *lol* what a nice word...patience.
EDIT:
So i'm done.
Works totally genius!!!!!!
I got Black Pearl (actuall) with phpbb 3.0.6
I work exactly with the instructions-xml one by one thru all.
Problems:
- overall_header in black pearl:
i can't find the descripted point for the lexicon link (where you can see all the acronyms)
But this should be not a problem.
In this case and for this moment i put it under:
Code: [Hide]
  1. <!-- INCLUDE menu_block.html -->
Later i'll do this Link on another Place. (A matter of taste <= if this right in english ^^)
- The install.php before the root in this pack:
I was really unsure to run this, because there was also install instructions for the SQL in the install.xml, too.
But i have run both (FIRST DiY sql injection PLUS the install.php after uploading all changed files).
The result was a small fault after doing install.php:
"[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /install.php on line 448: Invalid argument supplied for foreach()"
Don't know what it means but it works all fine after this!!! (what does this mean, can you tell me that?)
You can see the results because u got my PN (please don't publish the url here).
For any further problems with this mod i can't explain. I don't want anymore.
There's Ajax, too in this install folder.
Looks maybe really cool, but i just want a small, tiny pointer. If you understand what i mean.
In every case: This Mod works allright under phpbb 3.0.6
But you have a little bit practical knowledge to insert this in Black Pearl.
Best regards, testi*lol*
EDIT again:
Ah yes. Note the DiY copied Line in overall_header:
Don't take icon_mini_faq.gif but icon_mini_lexicon.gif
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
what you can not find in overall_header is possibly found in breadcrumbs.html ?
i ll réread this post tomorrow because i need some sleep, for now i dont understand much of it all anymore hehehehehe
goodnight
Edit: little tip ..have a look at acronyme_überall.txt
Ghostsearcher [ Sun 27 Dec, 2009 01:51 ]
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
As i said => Sorry for my baaaad english.
If i could this in german language explain and you would understand this, you would understand much more. ^^
But just ask me again, what you not understood.
Yes, i already take the code off from overall_header and put it into the breadcrumbs.html and breadcrumbs_pages.html. (i don't want that guests see the lexicon ^^ haha....)
The "acronyme_überall.txt" irretating me, because in ACP you got already this function. But the radio button for this somehow seems to be not working. ô.O
Gnaaah.....whatever.
It works for now and thats enough for me.
But if you try this someday to put in your test-forum, i want to see this in the Ajax-Mode if you make this.
Joshua203 [ Sun 27 Dec, 2009 13:31 ]
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
dont worry your english is just fine, i ld probably have more trouble decoding german hahaha
last night i just started doing too many things at the same time and being tired made me loose track
i see in the meantime you got the acronym alt-texts to work
when i ll get around to adding this i will probably only try using the acronyms and not the lexicon if thats possible, first thing first so that will be after the phpbb-, style- and language- update
i ll try to remember to inform you about the ajax when/if i added that
Ghostsearcher [ Sun 27 Dec, 2009 17:21 ]
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
Yeah that would be cool to see few pics about that.
(encode german to english)
Thanks to saying me, my english is fine. Can't believe that but it's ok. *rofl*
However: The Mod shows some very tiny mistakes what i found last night.
Commentless showing with a nice picture from that:
01drbh
~~~
One question still, if allowed:
Why you won't the "lexicon? It's very funny to the all the acronym with advanced description.

And yes, please remember me later if you can.

Joshua203 [ Sun 27 Dec, 2009 17:43 ]
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
the 2 arrows in your picture that point to acp_lexicon mean that the term is not yet included in the translation/language files so it is not replaced

the third arrow... i don t know, from what i see in your test post it works

ooh and by the way... "rofl/rotfl" means "rolling on (the) floor laughing" and i have my doubts if "Leise" means "out loud" (not too important ..i know )

Edit:
about the lexicon, i m unshure what it would actually add to acronyms, i like to keep it simple for visitors if i ever have any

I also thought to this point, too. I copied the files again on my server, nothing appears.
Maybe it was the point here:

Could "this" a reason for that problem? If yes i have to search the fault in phpmyadmin/sql?

Joshua203 wrote: [View Post]
the third arrow... i don t know, from what i see in your test post it works

It allows to use the acronyms within the words like "wordLOLtest". "lol" should be highlightet now between "word" and "test".
Whether i hit yes or now....nothing changes. But i don't want this feature so i can live with that.
It's just reported to you if you want to rewrite that codes there.
Maybe you can take a look in the "install.php"? Maybe you can find a mistake like i said before???

Quote:

Thank you pal. ^^
I've done/fixed it.

i guess thats not the reason (maybe that error popped up because you tried to create the database tables twice?), the reason for the missing translation could just be that the author of the mod forgot to add this?

i would just open lexicon.php in the language/acp directory and add something like this:

Code: [Hide] [Select]
'ACP_LEXICON' => 'YOUR RELACEMENT TEXT GOES HERE',

and if that does not help i would try adding it to common.php in the same directory

i just looked again at your test post and it seems to have stopped working?

Ghostsearcher [ Sun 27 Dec, 2009 21:49 ]
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
That's it!
I found it in the language/de/acp/lexicon.php

Under "ACP_LEXICON_EXPLAIN" i added after (new line): "ACP_LEXICON" with a followed description.
And i wonder about the mod was off in my board. No clue why.
Now i cleared the cache/templatecache and then just looking further with this mod.

The install.php is crap. i found a solution but it still doesn't work:
Code: [Hide] [Select]
$sql["install"] = "INSERT INTO" . $table_prefix . "config (config_name, config_value) VALUES ('allow_acronym', '1')";

But as i said that also doesn't work, too!

So long, test"i"

Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
at the moment it's telling me that rofl means rofl and lol means lol ..i'm amazed , but yes i see it s back

remember i m doing this blindfolded (without having this installed) but could you check if the directions in the acronyme_überall.txt is actually really made i mean does it exist? eventhough it s allready in admin panel with the switch yes/no

Ghostsearcher [ Sun 27 Dec, 2009 22:17 ]
Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
the words lol and rofl are test because i cleared sql db (for testing the install.php)
so i got no duplicated tables. not now and not before.
so long for that.

The thing with yes/no button for acronym INword still doesn't works.
I added the lines in the function_content.php without any effects.

there's something wrong.

But however i don't care about it. If you any advises/tips for me i can do so give it to me.

EDIT:
I forget to tell ya that the "yes/no" every times switch back, if i send it with "no".
So it is every times on "Yes".

for now i can only say that you can try having a good read in the author's thread if you have n't allready done that (i must admit ..i did not )

i ll let you know when i try this one myself and find out more

Edit:

Quote:

could that be because you changed that install.xml?

Post subject: Re: (solved) "Black Pearl" - Strange Sizes ???
Yes all done with reading. ^^ Not very long but not very informativ there.

The install.PHP what i changed has nothing to do with that, because the problem was from the start i installed this mod yesterday.
This is why i asked "could it be a fault in sql".

I think, it's just incompatible with 3.0.6 and the mod only works fine with 3.0.4.!
Hard to find the changes....

Maybe you have a look at post and get vars??

they might have changed something there

Like ollder versions using $HTTP_POST_VARS and new using $_POST

Nope, nothing found. But as i said, it's not important to me.
I wait for Joshua203 until he re-made the mod .

remake?? who ..me?? hahahha

nice your trust in me is bigger than my own, remember i m just an amature too and i m certainly no expert, i can only say i will install it even knowing there's problems with it and have a close look, the only upside is that i don t tend to let go easilly when i want something to work.

if anyone else knows something more before that time it will only make things easier (so thanks Spydie for giving this a thought too )

about reading that authors thread:
it 's a big read, 16 pages in two languages, but just having scrolled over it i at least found 2 posts about problems we discussed here too

one of them is about the install error you got (somewhere on page 10 of that thread), the other was missing language replacements

i will thoroughly read it myself when i m ready to give it a shot/chance

Post subject: Re: Black Pearl - Strange Sizes
Hi again T-ikel,

maybe you know i finally managed to update my boards and i even immediately saw some reason to modify the quickreply and also remove all the css errors/warnings that seem to have come with the update (lots of FOE colour warnings [font vs. background])

like i promised you i jumped to lexicon/akronyms after that:

first of all i had no install error, (i clicked to remove before clicking to install again), the error in there you mentioned does not look like an error but looks like a preset/pre-configuration

i installed the ajax thingy and i hated it straight away ...but after playing with it alittle it now looks actually reasonably good if ..i spend more time on this it might even look better than it looks now (eventhough i think i will switch this off within a month )
i can only wonder if this feature will affect page loading times much?)

i ll post a screeny later this evening, but remember that that will be the modded version to fit BP-style)

-one problem i noticed (even before modifying the lookof this page too) is in the lexicon page, i can click any letter but they all come up empty ...UNLESS i click "ALL to show all letters", then it shows them all ...dunnow why this happens (yet)

does this work on your install?

i have not looked into how it all works and when it shows or not but i did notice that switch to NO in acp is never actually set (so ..yeah mine also jumps back to yes all the time)

in short ..my biggest problem with it until now is... the lexicon page showing only letters empty exept when clicked on ALL

screeny will follow after a break

Edit: the promised screeny
screenylexicon
the image sticks to the page until closed or a new one is opened (scrolls along with the site at the same position) and if the image takes long to load you get a loading animation gif inbetween

what i forgot to mention is that i m a little disapointed that this mod works only on posts and not site wide

and the fact that the letter clicking in lexicon.php is not working is the biggest bummer for now

Joshua203 [ Thu 28 Jan, 2010 12:24 ]
Post subject: Re: Black Pearl - Strange Sizes
i m now looking where the positioning of the popup is set, think i saw it somewhere before but now i can t seem to find it (EDIT: found and set now)..i ld like to put it over the user avatar so it will not block reading of the text under it

it also seems to miss the log entry variables (3 of them)

{LOG_TERM_ADD}
{LOG_TERM_DELETE}
{LOG TERM_EDIT}

and the translation was kinda terrible in the original

stilll got empty lexicon letter choice results too, guess i really have to start reading that thread

Edit:

T-Ikel wrote:
EDIT:

So it is every times on "Yes".

to fix ...change allow_acronym in acp_lexicon.php to allow_acronym_in_words in the next "find" (!!2x!!)
Code: [Hide] [Select]
'ALLOW_ACRONYM_IN_WORDS_NO' => $config['allow_acronym'] == 0 ? 'checked="checked"' : '',
'ALLOW_ACRONYM_IN_WORDS_YES' => $config['allow_acronym'] == 1 ? 'checked="checked"' : '',

Edit:

hopefully the final edit, last but certainly not least ..the problem that clicking a letter gives no result (only works if clicking ALL)

this thing does not create the acronyms/lexions in different languages ...so why the hell is it looking for them???
simply remove this code from lexicon.php
Code: [Hide] [Select]
AND lang = '" . $user->lang['USER_LANG']."'

i know there's another USER_LANG in that file ...leave that one as it is!

and maybe look if the database files are not set to german (de)

Greetings, .. Joshua203
