phpBB 3 MODS And Styles (Not Compatible With phpBB 3.1) - Style Updates

Post subject: Style Updates
Mighty Gorgon is really so busy lately that I think he does not even have the time to inform about the latest 2 style updates (actually it's 14 updates, 7 styles x2 LOL), so i hope he does n't mind me taking the liberty to post about it here to draw user's attention to it.

All styles for phpbb have been updated first to version 1.61 and yesterday to 1.62 !!

Now can I have a BIG CHEER for Mighty Gorgon? He is really working his butt off to get it all done for us!!

____________
P.S. ..I'm leaving the announcements in the style release threads up to you MG
(little hint.. the version number still says 1.61 eventhough it downloads the latest version)

Who's being negative?

There are people waiting for answers here that possibly only MG can answer because everyone else seems to have lost interest.

The catch-cry is: MG is so busy these days.

GOOD - But he's so busy supporting other forum software that he doesn't find the time to attend to his own?

And like all of the "Other" support people here who keep disappearing - - - Why do I bother?

You should know better Lopalong, you re arround longer than i am

He s trying to please everybody and like i said ..working his butt off with only the help of a few others

You should put him on your payroll if you wanna claim his time in my opinion, but hey then you would have to give private info to paypal? i hope you catch my drift
try being gratefull for once for all the free time that is invested in BOTH projects

i m quite sure most time is spend on his personal project ..icy

Hey Lopa,
bringing on project of this size is really tough when you have only a couple of developers and only a couple of debuggers. I'm not trying to be understood, but as I already mentioned I prefer lack on support than lack on develpment. It's a trade off. I believe if I better use my time for code than also support could be easily afforded. I know I'm not actively supporting users right now, but there aren't any serious issues and bugs in the latest stable release, so what's the point?

It's open source, when someone decides to use this software he (at least should!) knows that support is not guaranteed. Of course I don't like see the interest in this project decreasing, but what else could I do? Trust me, I'm doing my best, but how can you see it's not enough to satisfy everyone... so I think it is still better to continue coding leaving some topics unsopported insted of answering few people (and so let development dying).

If you have pro-active solutions feel free to suggest them.

Regarding "other forum software" it's a matter of learning curve: looking at other software structure allows me to improve my skills and get suggestions for future developments.

Currently my free time is allocated for 70% to Icy Phoenix development, 20% in learning new things (including phpBB 3), 10% in taking care of this website (support, update, improvements, etc.). Please don't suppose that I have lost the interest in this project because you should evaluate my efforts and interestes by looking at the dev timeline, not measuring it by number of topic replies here.

Icy Phoenix Commits Timeline @ Assembla
Icy Phoenix Commits Timeline @ GIT
Icy Phoenix Project Analysis And Timeline @ Ohloh

You can click on some code commits to check further details and statistics about development.

Se you next complaint!

Well, free time doesn't include sleep and bathroom time.

It is only the time allocated to "coding" stuffs, because fortunately I do some other things in my life other than PHP!

Hey,
many thanks for the update for this brilliant style! What does the update because of changes? Can i read this somewhere?

Code: [Hide] [Select]
* 2010/04/30 - Version 1.6.2
- Files updated:
# captcha_qa.html
# mcp_header.html
# mcp_notes_front.html
# mcp_warn_front.html
# posting_body.html

Can I read somewhere what changes were made (Code Changes)?
I have installed many mods ....

I thank you!

Greetings Piet

Post subject: Re: Style Updates
hi Piet,

i think/was told the updates were (mostly) some small bugfixes to comply with phpBB's demands for approved releases

actually the list of files is probably more like this list:
Code: [Hide] [Select]
*- Files updated:
# captcha_qa.html
# mcp_header.html
# mcp_notes_front.html
# mcp_warn_front.html
# posting_body.html
*# forumlist_body
*# index_body

there's no seperate list of only the codechanges..just the list of changed files

best thing you can do to update your allready modded files is ...compare them (old to new) using WinMerge, this is a very handy free tool that highlights any differences

i hope this helped a little

Greetings'
..Joshua203

Any black pearl user that did not do this update yet might like to have the attached update instructions to make updating a piece of cake

EDIT: my guess is that rainbow pearl users can use the same edits

*thanks MG for showing me how to make this
