I think it goes like this:
I have to add a Infolinks code in the source code icyphoenix
Copy & paste right before the closing </ body> tag at the end of your code
<script type="text/javascript">
var infolinks_pid = 374871;
var infolinks_wsid = 0;
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://resources.infolinks.com/js/infolinks_main.js"></script>

I would you in CMS "Ads & Sponsors"

This is working in all templates and you dont have to care about it by doing updates.

Regarding TheSteffen's remark about loosing edits after updating:
Maybe you can even add the code in acp where the analitics code is entered if you don't want to use the "Ads & Sponsors".
I haven't tested but it might work and then the edits would also be in the DB instead of in the tpl's.
