Blank Pages After Upgrading Or Only Header? Try This...
-----------------------------------
Hile, neighbours and friends...

Here's what I did:

1st made a backup of the files

2nd I uploaded the update php file and run it as admin... No problems

3rd I erased all files from previous release (except config.php, album_mod/upload/*.* files/*.* includes/*.* and templates/*.*)

4d Uploaded the whole new version and all patches

5.- I restored def_*.php from the backup I made

6.- I applied the correct permissions to every folder

After that:

1.- I can't see almost any post in normal mode, but no problem in lo-fi mode.

2.- I can't upload any picture either in normal or lo-fi mode

3.- I can't use the 3column.tpl layout (I had to re-configurate the 2column layout)

So

1.- I restored my backed up copy and same problems were still there.

I also:

1.- Created a brand new installation of XS2 in a new folder and in a new DB

2.- Everything worked right.

3.- I changed de config.php of the new XS2 installation to use the old folder and changed the folder in the ACP for the old DB

4.- The problems I told before came again in the brand new installation

so I figured out it was problem of the DB and not the files, so:

1.- I went to de Admin panel of my domain and repaired the old database

2.- I marked every table of my DB in phpMyAdmin and fixed and repaired them.

No changes... Errors still persist...

And I tried one more thing...

I uploaded the quick_xs_settings.php that MG posted in another message and tried all the three configs and the same problems are still there...

Anyone has any idea on what else could I do???

Thnx in advance!!

Just because in the upgrade instructions MG says
(...)Upload all new files (except config.php, install/*.*, contrib/*.* and includes/def_*.php(...)
So, instead of avoiding upload includes def_*.* I prefered to upload the original ones and then replace them with the backed-up ones, as its faster to do this way...

Anyway there is no difference in leaving the old ones or the new ones, the same problems are still there!!

Any other suggestion?

Thanks for your interest, difus!

If anyone needs it there is always a test account: user:tester pass:test

Yes, I cleared the cache in two ways: Through the ACP (Manage Cache --> Delete chache) And through my ftp, deleting the contents of the cache folder... Nothing happened :(

For instances:

A normal post:

--> http://www.ka-tet-corp.com/portal2.0/viewtopic.php?p=35810&lofi=0 (only overall_header.tpl is parsed)

The same post in lofi mode:

--> http://www.ka-tet-corp.com/portal2.0/viewtopic.php?p=35810&lofi=1

I have reviewed the errors.log of my site and I have multiple instances like this one:

PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 737280 bytes) in /home/ka-tet-corp.com/data/htdocs/portal2.0/cache/tpl_ca_aphrodite.viewtopic_body.php on line 664

Maybe it has something to do with?

And every time I try to see this one: http://www.ka-tet-corp.com/portal2.0/viewtopic.php?p=35362#35362 my computer tries to download viewtopic.php

And what's most amazing: Half an hour ago I couldn't see this one: http://www.ka-tet-corp.com/portal2.0/viewtopic.php?p=35810&lofi=0 but now I can :shock:

Can't see the differences between them!!!

Well, actually I tried that several times... There are two ways:

ACP/Admin Forums/Administrate
and
ACP/Admin Forums/Admin sync

Or something like that... As I use the spanish version I'm not sure about the correct links...

I will try them again and will say something!!!

Thnx very much for your interest!!

I agree!!!

But unfortunatelly I've tried to restore a backup of the DB but the server does nothing... I've talked to the hosting and they say that most of them are on hollydays and will try to do something with that issue next week :(

Trying to restore from the ACP I get an execution time error...

Thank you very much, difus!!!

Re: Problems After Upgrading To 058

It could be a caching problem.

Try to verify again permissions on all your files and cache folder.

Try to completely disable the caching system.

Try to disable precompiled posts.

Sometimes even the forum index is not loaded....

You may also try to increase the memory limit in your php.ini (if you can).

Hile, Mighty Gorgon!!!!

Yes, yes, yes!!! You are the only master!!!!!!!!

I verifyed many times the permissions but they were right.

I tryed disabling the cache several times in the past few days and nothing happened.

I tryed disabling the precompiled post many times in the past few days and nothing happened...

And right this morning, at 6 o'cock I got an inspiration and modified the memory_limit from 8M to 12M. As I haven't access to php.ini, I did it by adding this line at the top of ingludes/page_header.php:
ini_set("memory_limit","12M");
And it was kindda miracle!!!!

Now I came to post the solution and, man... You got it before I did!!!! :D

I don't know why I need more resources now...

Thank you, indeed, Mighty!!!

PS: Hope that line in the page_header.php can stay there, as I don't like doing it through the .htaccess... Don't know exactly why, but I hate htaccess!!!

He he he... great you solved... even if you got the solution before reading my post! :wink:

I don't think you can set the memory limit of PHP using HTACCESS... so you can leave that there... or better... include it in common.php. :wink:

Sorry, Zuker, for such a long delay in answering!!!

You write that line, now not in page_header.php, but in common.php... Only in common.php!!

Greetz!!

Re: Blank Pages After Upgrading Or Only Header? Try This...
-----------------------------------
I have come across a totally different problem that causes the site to go blank after an upgrade. Its after assigning 666 permissions to includes/def_tree.php. If I replace it with a clean file, and keep it at 644, everything is fine. So perhaps something not quite right with the categories hierarchy install, but being such a huge mod...

Further to that, I have noticed that if I remove this from the top of def_tree.php:
<!-- template .//includes/cache_tpls/def_tree_def.tpl start -->
and remove this from the bottom of def_tree.php:
<!-- template .//includes/cache_tpls/def_tree_def.tpl end -->

keeping the generated contents within, I can view my site again (but keeping def_tree.php at 644 thereafter to avoid the template lines being generated!)

I have also noticed that in the default XS install, functions_categories_hierarchy.php has: //define('CACHE_WORDS', true);
So theres not even any point setting it to 666 (as instructed in XS install note) unless it was changed.

Re: Blank Pages After Upgrading Or Only Header? Try This...

I've never had this problem, and always used 666 (The Number Of The Beast) as setting... :roll:

About caching words you are right but using 666 won't damage anyone! :lol:
