You have to reactivate it if you want to speed up your site. It is the third time that I'm telling you this, but maybe you don't have any clue... If enabling it again will return blank pages it is because you have something corrupted in your DB. You need to make tests to fully understand what is wrong. It can be either forum tables (as I already said try to do some DB maintenance in ACP) or auth tables. If the auth table is damaged the only solution is to empty that and reassign all permissions. I can't know what the exact problem is, but I'm almost sure that it is one of these. You can also try to remove all forum descriptions and make sure you have clean forum names (no quotes, no html, no special chars).
