Post KB Mode

I need some suggestion about the KB Mode which I started developing some months ago... but I've never finished it...

Now I'm working a bit on it, just to try to make it nicer and useful.

I think less than 10 users knows this function... but now it is time to let this spread out...

Try to view these links:

http://www.icyphoenix.com/viewforum.php?f=4&kb=true

http://www.icyphoenix.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3142&kb=true

As you see these are just a forum and a topic with a different tpl to look similar to Knowledge Base.

What does it means? It means that you can alternatively show one section (or topic) in standard mode or in KB mode. When kb=true is appended to the url, then you will see the KB mode, which means a wide template with fewer things and more easy to read for documentations.

At the moment I'm stuck because I don't know how it is better to integrate it... if putting an icon on forum list (like the RSS one feed) or adding a clickable link on top of viewforum and viewtopic. At the moment I think that the second option is better.

Anyway... feel free to make some tests on this site (on your Icy Phoenix this feature is not complete!) and suggest me what you would do...

I will read your suggestions to see if there will be some good ones...

Thanks.

Post Re: KB Mode

We can create the lo-fi, med-fi and hi-fi versions.

Lo-fi: the one that exists right now for lo-fi.
Med-fi: kb mode
Hi-fi: normal mode

Kb mode reduces bandwith usage, generation time and time to charge, but minimun without a 33/56Kb connection.

Edit:

Idea:

It can be set the med-fi as default for guests (not robots).

Inside viewtopic should be great.
I think that some users would like to use that kb mode as default, it can be possible?

greets luca!

HI-FI so you can hear music as well !

Just modify it for php LOL:

Code: [Download] [Hide]
  1. //Starting output
  2. //KIDDING MODE - BEGIN
  3. print('HI-FI :LOL: so you can hear music as well :LOL: !') or die('HI-FI :LOL: so you can hear music as well :LOL: !');
  4. //KIDDING MODE - END

Jokes off:

We can set a link to set that mode in viewtopic and viewforum, and add a cookie or db row to remind the option selected.

Hey Luca,

first time i saw the KB some years ago i thought its a cool feature...

I was thinking about that every user can edit the first/main post... (like a wiki) (wikipedia.org)  but its impossible...

So i was looking for another MOD and found one... i have installed it on my forum... but i have some errors, and not much time to complete this...

If you think its a cool feature and want to play with it a bit, feel free to visit my page, and look around.

Also, if you want, i can create a install package so that you can install it on your local test server...

If not, no problem.. i know you dont have much time... just my ideas about the thing with KB
