Re: Earthquake In Italy
Is a tragic situation.
Over 100 dead and 1500 injured.
A catastrophe for the residents of that area.
They can not do anything I can only hope that the humanitarian aid they help those people.
A thought to them before bedtime, it's for them.
I know it is not very close but there is with the heart.

Re: Earthquake In Italy
Hi,
I live in Rome. I felt the earthquake the other night. It was really scary-the bed was moving, there was a strange rattling sound and the whole room was shaking. Then, just now, I felt another tremor. The sofa was moving under me, there was that eerie rattling again and the lampshade was swinging. I was all on my own and even more frightened than the first time especially after seeing all those poor people and devastated villages on the tv. . They say Rome itself isn't so at risk because it's empty underneath. On the other hand you can never be sure...

Re: Earthquake In Italy
My mother is in Italy this week, from what I was told in Ravena weren't big problems.
The buildings that collapsed were probably not been calculated to resist an earthquake at this scale (they are probably old buildings).
The standards in Romania are very high in terms of seismic calculation of structures (as a result of high seismic risk in this zone), which causes me headaches when I project a building. But moments like this in Italy confirms us if there was any need to, that we cannot play with people's life and double check the calculations. Neither the builders!
Did you know that if we want to build o house with the technology and materials from year 1800, by our days seismic standards we will have to make the walls like 3 or 4 meters thickness?

Re: Earthquake In Italy
My sympathy goes out to everyone affected by this disaster, and that includes all of the Australian-Italians, some of whom would without a doubt have deep roots in this tragically affected area of Italy.

Re: Earthquake In Italy
Perhaps I am a little bit away from Italy, but I do wish the best for who were affected by the disaster, in order they can stay after this without geeting down, even when I do not know any of those I wish this.
Strengh ang vigour.
Strengh, for not coming back, in order to stay at the same place they are right now.
Vigour, in order to keep going their way, to keep living.

Re: Earthquake In Italy
Thanks to all.
People are trying to take back self-confidence and send away earthquake fear.
Many people died, and about 30.000 people are now homeless... everyone in Italy (and not only) is trying to help them.
Rebuilding will require a lot of time.
