Ok, to save MG some time explaining this annoying situation and to inform anyone interested...

Your best bet would be to use 1.6.5 until a completely new version is released!!

1.6.6 may be validated but misses a correct readme file and has a small error added back by phpbb (wich is now again pending for a fix.)

Mighty Gorgon has updated both styles to version 1.6.7 to match phpbb 3.0.9 (see post 1 in this thread)

It might be worth adding this

I have to update this style, how can I reuse all of the color information from my current 3.0.9 style with a fresh 3.0.10 style?
Which files do I need to copy over? Were these copied files changed between 3.0.9 and 3.0.10?

Want and need: Please make this style a template of one of the defaults like a lot of the other styles please.
Having to go through all of my mods over and over again in your style is getting very obnoxious.
I'd like to be able to merge changes and be done with upgrades, rather than spend 90% of my time working on changes in your style

This would all depend on how and where you changed the colours really (images, html files, stylesheet, ColourizeIt).

What you are asking is quite impossible, if it would be the same as one of the 2 default styles it would look the same too, on top of that ...your added modifications will also cause conflicts (not only for the styles you use but also for language and phpbb).

Sure you could try auto merging it all but that is always a big risk.
You could add old and new style to the update pack for each style I guess but your modifications could still cause trouble.

The only way to safely update the way you suggest is by keeping everything default.

There are many styles out there now using subsilver2 and prosilver as a base.
Its called cloning, and they use the base code and modify off of that.

Im trying to save you time and energy here.
I do not see anything like:

inherit_from = prosilver
or
inherit_from = subsilver2

in your template.cfg.
They may be subsilver based, but your code is completely separate.
This is not that new, maybe this article can illustrate better what I mean.

I am trying to avoid a big discussion in this thread though.

The reason I think you want it to inherit could be worked around like I mentioned in my first reply.. add rainbow pearl to the update pack.

Personally I've never questioned why it is n't inheriting because I like it that way (I have no default style installed or activated, why would I have to if nobody will be using it?)

I also question if it would be so easy to install and keep track of a mod on files that are in two different template folders.

Updating by hitting a merge button without thouroughly checking what it is going to change exactly isn't a very good idea either IMHO.

Can you elaborate on this, im not sure what you mean.
Essentially, the end game would be to update the style without having to start from scratch on mods and do everything all over again each time I need to upgrade phpBB.

If you take a close look at how the content of an update pack looks you'll notice it contains an "old" and a "new" folder that contain only the changed files (keep in mind a style author could have changed more, so you need to check the codechanges in the docs readme file).
I guess (but not advice) you could add those files from the new and old style in there and they would be checked like the default styles.

What I do advice you to use is WinMerge (google for it, it's free), this allows you to compare and spot the changes in each file and will let you decide how to work arround your modded lines. (you would do this at your own PC so you wouldn't really have the need to announce an outage either   )

If you have more questions about updating please open your own thread for it (or tell me a new title and ask me to split these posts into a new thread), maybe you will even get some more opinions about it   (don't forget we are in a release thread here!)

PS... you could also go for patch files or code changes (read the other tabs here: http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/ )

A last remark on this "inherit stuff" ...
It's not inheriting because every single table is build differently (probably the reason why you choose the style )
