I'm not sure if this is possible but a rough idea would be great
On my old host I am currently running ip board. But I am changing host and software. I was wondering is there anyway I could use the old database? Or even just parts ofthe database. I don't want to have to spend all the time copying over all the threads manually.
Would be great if someone could let mr know. Cheers

And what software are you changing to?
As most have a way of converting "other" databases to their format.

lets see.
get MysqlDumper, install that on your old host with access to the old database.
pull a copy of your old DB with MysqlDumper.
install the Dumper on your new Host. upload the copy and restore the DB.
then you only need to make a few changes like domain_name in the DB
upload all files from your old Host to the New
you´ve got to edit your config.php to the new DB conection data afterwards it should run
If you have some problems with the images, you can do this.
open config table in the DB and change version number to an older one, then upload install folder and go to the install panel.
run the DB update and then
run the post fix option and tell it to search for old domain name and replace with new domain name.

Subject: Re: Databases
I thought the question was about "Conversion" of the database not just simply moving it. :?:

I thought what software I'm moving to would be quite obvious as I asked the question here LOL. Moving to icy pheonix. And the ip board versions is the latest I think. I don't need all of the database data only the topics etc.
I am a average user when it comes to working with databases so some detail would be great. I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear earlier. If my users have to reregister it's ok

He's using IPB?
You will need a copy of phpBB*2, and I'm not that sure if there's still a converter available at phpBB.com for IPB to phpBB2. But more than likely there is.
Convert IPB to phpBB*2 and then upgrade to Icy Phoenix. ;)
There are some discussions about this here at Icy Phoenix - So have a bit of a search and you'll probably come up with some help.
Failing that - Yell out some more, as I'm sure Spydie can help as soon as he figures out what you are trying to do.

hehe
Could have been easier, if he would have written IPB , cause most of us use IP for IcyPhoenix .
that can be a bit confusing . :P

thats the problem.
you can´t only import the posts, because of beeing related to Users in the DB

Subject: Re: Databases
I would try to convert IPB to phpBB2
Maybe this converter would help... but it is very old
http://sourceforge.net/projects/php...tors/IPB%201.x/
or this one
http://phpbb3.pytalhost.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=42
You can give it a try
If you are on phpBB2, you can update to IcyPhoenix very easy.
