Post I'm New, Can You Point Me In The Right Direction?

I have a website I am making for a new MMORPG coming out.  It has a phpbb3 Forum Sub-domain and I am pretty sure it has all the resources Icy Pheonix requires.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for what I wanted to do.  I am fairly inexperienced in Web Design so I am reluctant to jump right in and start installing things left and right.  Any advice would be widely appreciated by myself and the group I represent.

That is an example of what I would like to end up similar to.

Thanks for your time

Thats the Icy Phoenix portal, just download it from here --> http://www.icyphoenix.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3736
read the instructions on how to install it and your set.

This is my Icy Phoenix site --> http://altecart.com/bobo/
Thats the package, the only thing extra I have installed their is the Activity mod and the black pearl theme which you can find both here on the site along with other themes and mods.

You can upgrade to phpbb3, read here --> http://www.icyphoenix.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3849
I never did thou, mine is fine the way it is. (to me anyway   )

As of right now I am still in the installation process but I am concerned about the posts on my old forums.  I haven't yet backed them up though I have seen that updates and upgrades really wan't you to back them up.  I will do that right now, just out of safety.

My main question is can and how do I transfer the post data if needed.  Or will the /forum sub domain of my sight be recognized by IcyPheonix?

My site is cod.zpliskin.com BTW

(cod.zpliskin.com/forum is the only area of the site that I have developed/customized)

When you upgrade, what you are doing is using the icyphoenix  files in place of your old forum. The update routine will alter your existing database to make to work with IP - this means adding a large number of tables, and adding fields to existing phpbb tables - you do not have to manually transfer data.

I am not sure from your first post if you are wanting to update from phpbb2 or phpbb3. For the record, you cannot use the update routine to install icyphoenix on a phpbb3 forum - there are two many differences in the dB structure compared to phpbb2, the biggest hurdle is that phpbb3 does not have a posts_text table, which is required in phpbb2 and icyphoenix (phpbb3's converter script combines posts and posts_text data into the single phpbb3 posts table). You would need to "downgrade" from phpbb3 to phpbb2 first, if there is such a script to do that in phpbb3.

And yes make backups. Always.
