Post Possible Bug In Backup Utility

Hi

I stumbled over a few errors in Database restore, Because a friend tried to restore his DB and ran into error´s.

To me it look´s like something in the Backup Utility is asigning Default´s to lines in tables there no default should be.

Due to that 9 Tables are´nt created on restore and could show up as errors during post´s

I´ve listed the Original and backup tables In the spoiler

Spoiler: [ Show ]

Please don´t care about phpbb and ip prefixes, since original is from install file and backup comes directly from

server.

All this are tables that are deleted but not created on restore due to default´s in places there they should´nd be.

Can someone confirm this please

If MG has not solved that, that was even a bug on phpbb 2 series. Even phpbb staff said their users not to use the included backup script to make them, as it was broken.

Anyway, IDK if it has been solved anytime, I have never used it.

Do you have any acknowlege of that?

the problems i´ve got is with the icy backup utility

A friend changed hosting and now i´ve got to review 10 mb of db.

because we can´t access his old database because it is through the domain, not even through the hoster.  because the domain name went with him. so with no domain he can´t access the db.

I´ve got to work with his db backup from yesterday night. with loads of doble entry´s and default´s in the wrong places.

gonna get crazy on it

if his old hosting company still has got a association for the domain name, edit your hosts file and point the domain name to the old host, so you will get access to files, DBs and so on on the old hoster.

I guess the old host is free of cost, due to the 10 MB DB

This work as the TCP/IP protocol works this way:

-You input a URL/URI
-A query for NS servers for the domain specified is made. If you have the IP on the hosts file, it goes directly to contacting the webserver at that IP.
-The DNS server from the NS query is queried about the "A" value for that domain. The A value is the server IP.
-Your computer contacts the web server on the IP provided last step.

So, if you have the host on your hosts file, all the queries are avoided.
Add the old host IP it the host file and remember to flush the dns cache (doing "ipconfig /flushdns" on the windows cmd shell is engough)

BTW, if you do not know the old host IP adress, your hosting service MUST give it you if the domain name is still associated.

Good luck mate!

forget about that. tried everything allready.

This bloody backup utility from icy got me crazy. i´m reviewing the db backup file and for now i´ve stripped it down to 2/3 of what it was before. All the insert into post table stauff is double. I crosschecked 10 times before starting to delet lines. all post are double in there.
