is there any special reason you added www too batman???

EDIT:

I would also like to point out to you that this "Designed by KD Designs   © FBIA" is not a great idea at the bottom of your forum pages!!

It would mean you would receive no support anymore
It should say "Design by phpBB and subBlue
                       Restyled by Mighty Gorgon  "

Should I not include the www?

With all due respects to the copyright part, I have kept the "Powered by Icy Phoenix based on phpBB"

The original style may have been Restyled by Mighty Gorgon , but has since been restyled and re-designed by me.

I think the important part is I still have the "Powered by Icy Phoenix based on phpBB" as that still stands and so it should as they have done the hard graft.
If we want to start splitting hairs about the style then the original designer of subBlue should be in there.
I love Icy, but it is a little over promoted with the credits and branding, I have left the credits as I would with the original PHPBB as that's what matters as it still re-directs to the designer of the portal system.
it will be restyled even more by me in time, no offence meant

That may be the case with the link however I have kept the important part of the copyrights.
The fact remains I have restyled the design since the original installation.

I'm not trying to take credit away. but lets please be realistic here as the original install setup does progress and gets edited and hugely modified by the site owners.

you are using the correct word there ... "Modify"
Even if you use phpbb with a template ...both get a credit at the same places so I don't understand where Icy is "over promoting" with links credits or branding.

Anyway don't say I did not give a fair warning if support stops

I've even viewed the design selling website wich made me scratch my head even more but I'm not going into a discussion about what's right and what's not with you.
Neither am I going into a discussion on how much was redesigned and how much is going to be redesigned.

I'm curious to understand what are you referring to when you say that it is "over promoted".

As for the copyright issue on the "web engine", you have there Icy Phoenix and phpBB links and it is fine.

Regarding template, subBlue isn't mentionend in the original proSilver for phpBB 3, I have just added his name there since I was porting his template to another platform (it is released under GPL, so I can do that) I thought it was courtesy to add the name of the creator. My name is there because I altered the original template, and it's always good to add a note about that, because if you are a designer and someone edits your template in a way that you don't like, then you would prefer to have a line mentioning that it has been "EDITED BY" instead of making other user thinking that the template is like the original template. It's a bit complex to explain... but I think it is useful adding the extra line to avoid people being misleaded.

Anyway... I don't care about "Restyled by Mighty Gorgon", you can omit that for proSilver (since it isn't my own creation, I cannot take copyright), but you should ensure that you don't need to add subBlue credits.

It's always complex trying to speak about credits...

Post Re: (sorted) Cookie Problem

Sorry for any confusion, when I said about over branding I meant there's a lot of stuff that has to be altered such as images etc. so to make the site unique, I don't really want to start getting in to issues.

As for my design website, that's for web design I do web design and SEO work I'm not a coder and all is created from a blank page so don't use templates but design from the ground up.

The site which uses Icy is purely a free hobby site and the one I'm looking to convert over to Icy is one I have been running since 2004 which is the sister site to the other hobby site as the two cover 2 different specialist areas of interest.

I have no problem in altering the copy text to either restyled or modified and based on subBlue, its not really a big issue either way.
I have only just started using Icy so am mostly just sorting things out, but in time the site will be highly redesigned to suit the hobby its catering for.

The important thing is that I have left the important copyrights in place which I would always do, so if anybody wants to find out more about both of the respective systems i.e. Icy P and PHPBB then they can simply click on the links and find out all they need to know about them as they both have all the finer details on the credits for the whole systems.
The point I am trying to make though is I'm not trying to mislead people in to thinking its all my creation, I'm not that kind of person

EDIT now altered the copy-text and links.

Sorry I just don't have a cristal ball and believe me I know how tempting it usually is to many people to put their own name there after changing just one logo
I just warn people about this and the possible consequence when I notice it ( as nice as I can   )
As you can see MG is very easy going with this if you discuss it with him

OK now all this has been cleared up back to the cookie question.

All this depends on how you configure things for your site like your domain settings (how you point it)

If you force people to go to www. then I guess it would not be too bad, but what's important to realize is that .. the more you write there the more "binding" it would become.

Don t forget that no matter if people type http:// or www. or even both ...they will just get there if they forget all those extra's anyway too (unless you configure it differently for some reason)

I hope this makes sense  (it's very early here )

Greetings,
...Laurel rotfl_01

Hehehe! the old -  Who did, he did, they did and someone else did, and by the time I finish - where are am I going to get some credit for my bit.

Change Design by Mighty Gorgon to "Original Layout by Might Gorgon". And that should cover your ass both ways.

As for www

That's only client side stuff for people who don't know how to type http://

It's only a tag to make it easier for those who are not web-savvy (Grandma's) to make their life easier. - And something else - Localhost as in XAMPP etc doesn't have a www folder, and if you ever went to do something with your site on your pc with a local server, www would be a hell of a problem as your browser wouldn't be able to relate to it.

Best NOT to use www. in anything that is server-side, and especially not inside script. - it's strictly reserved for html as used in posts etc.

Cough!

Read the edit! http://www.icyphoenix.com/viewtopic.php?p=51572#p51572

That is all!

Hya fellas I did try removing the www. but couldn't login again, so had to change back via phpmyadmin, I'm assuming the "dot" before the domain name has to remain?

Thanks for your advice

Ill try removing the www but will leave the .

EDIT: no dont work removing the WWW part, as soon as I put it back via ip_config in phpmyadmin, it is fine again

With this question it's been stuck in my head that it was about the Domain Name setting.

I'm going to take a break....

leave the www. in your cookie or remove the whole string from Cookie Domain, either way should still be ok.

I thought about domainname setting too (first thing that popped in mind)
You should use the same setting anywhere you can think of.

Also don't forget to clean the browser too if it all keeps failing, cookies can be painfully missleading sometimes when you change stuff
