 Re: Website Went Blanco
I must admit I'm puzzled too about what happened to you and why, the info you give doesn't ring any bell for me, I was kinda hoping you would say you edited a language file when it happened.
You should be able to upload zipped files and unwrap them at the server using your hosting panel or ftp (whatever you like best), both should be able to unwrap them in the location you put them on the server.
But before you start messing things up, please wait for a second or third opinion, it would be a shame if someone else came up with an easy fix after you messed up your 2 year old forum
BTW it could be a good idea to post a link to your forum, so people can try and take a look (assuming the forum falls within our link posting rules)
EDIT:
PS ...Maybe silly but worth a shot!...
have you compared the content of your htaccess files to the one I attached?

 Re: Website Went Blanco
It is sad, but- there isn't much more to it. I just added some info to the -mac- section- on the forum and deleted the old section-linux- and that was the last time I saw the forum.....
Everything went blanco.......
link- www.cafe-malta.com
just a sniper-community, Medal of Honor.
I came to learn Icy as the help I got set it up for me- and the second time, about two years later- I set it up and updated it myself...maybe something originated from the first Icy P? That would be 4 years back.....

thanks for the link, but you did not reply to the later added PS edit

BTW all I can see at normal page level is this content:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<META content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" http-equiv=Content-Type></HEAD>
<BODY></BODY></HTML>
which means a white/empty page
Please compare the .htaccess file content

 Re: [SOLVED] Website Went Blanco
have you got a db backup from the last day´s ??
try to restore your forum with that and test, if everything is back there.
afterwards go step by step, doing a backup before each change. to the time you got the result you want.
so if something goes wrong, you got the closest backup to it.
Edit.
IMHO you should leave .htaccess file as is, and try other way´s before.

 Re: Website Went Blanco
Thank you both for answering that fast, I am amazed!
I will compare both .htaccess- it is worth the shot-and- I will update the forum from a to b version....13053 a to b that is.
I make a back up every 14 days- so it is not so long ago.
Can I restore it with it? And how do I do that- I only know how to update, but restore, no.....never have done that-
It would be great if you explain that to me- thanks you two!!

 Re: Website Went Blanco
I would not go back in time this fast but it's upto you ofcourse
How did you create your back ups ..in ACP or in your hosting panel for example?
If in ACP then I'm sure you noticed the link below DB Backup called DB Restore in the DB & Security section, it's all really pretty self explanatory IMHO

 Re: Website Went Blanco
I made my back-up with file manager- from the hosting panel- and I made a copy of the sql databases-
I can't go into the ACP- that also is gone-

 Re: Website Went Blanco
TBH my knowledge about sql is not great and anytime I have to do something big there I have to take it step by step, you should n't really mess with that unless it's the absolute ONLY way out of trouble.
Since I saw your erc file in ACP directory I thought you could still see the ACP panel, my mistake ...sorry
If you are going to ré-upload the files of the board, make sure you don't overwrite config.php (ensure you have a working copy always).
Then if you really realy feel you want/have to , take a look at phpMyAdmin (I don't know what kind of hosting panel panel you have but I'm guessing you have phpmyadmin) and be very carefull there or even better ..let someone more experienced take care of it (someone you can really trust!!).
You may need to do some reading about mysql and repairing/deleleting/importing database tables, "you may" is actually an understatement
But really before messing with all the above I would make sure I tried all option of the ACP ERC file!

 Re: [SOLVED] Website Went Blanco
Best way to do backups is with MysqlDumper. The Icy incorporated one has problems on restore with double entrys.
so it will probably get stuck.
With MSD you can set up a cron job via hosting panel, to do a backup every day, and only keep for example the backups of the last 7 days.
and for restore its better aswell, because it can handle Big Dumps aswell, no matter the size of DB

 Re: Website Went Blanco
Joshua, I really tried all things possible in .erc .....I wished it would have done the trick- The best result I have until now is a page with the Icy Phoenix bird on it
I hope I can repair the db- I did that once before ( 2 years ago, darn, the website ran that long, I just got lazy!), but I have a lot of reading to do;)
Spydie- I keep your suggestion in mind, thank you so very much!
Thank you both!!
I set up an emergency site- I need some time to figure it all out......

 Re: Website Went Blanco
You have phpMyAdmin right?
If you do, you could try this:
- Open phpMyAdmin
- At the left side, open your icyphoenix DB
- Again at the left in the new window, find and open YOUR PREFIX_forums (example: ip_forums )
- Now check if you see any irregularities there at the right side
- You should also be able to export it and compare it to the same part of the most recent working backup (just search for the same table in that file)
This should also tell you if you can open the latest working backup and that it's not damaged (on my tests I was unable to download an un-damaged one via ACP, so this might depend on how you downloaded it)
I could make the list of ideas longer but that would only complicate things IMHO, so maybe it would be best if you post back after the above (a detailed reply please, maybe even include the downloaded table backup)
EDIT: even if this is just a broken setup be very careful there ..maybe even Export the full broken DB before you check or do anything

 Re: Website Went Blanco
Sigh- done it and I did not find something wrong....
Is there a way to insert the data manually?
I remember I did it once before, but -heck- I don't know how to do so anymore...

 Re: Website Went Blanco
Have you exported the full DB the way it is now allready?
anduhhmm ...Were you able to open the icy backup you have?
PS...edit
Yes you could edit each table with phpmyadmin but if you don't see the problem then what would you edit?
