Post Disable Eliminate Account In Profile

Hello again,

Is there a way to disable or remove the Eliminate Account (Eliminazione Account in italiano) link in the Profile section? Some magic variable in ACP perhaps?

What about some magic .tpl edits - Not the permanent solution, but it should remove the option to do it.

profile_cpl_menu_inc_start.tpl

Remove:

Code: [Download] [Hide] [Select]
                    <tr>
                        <td align="left" width="8">{IMG_NAV_MENU_SEP}</td>
                        <td class="genmed" align="left"><a href="{U_CPL_DELETE_ACCOUNT}">{L_CPL_DELETE_ACCOUNT}</a></td>
                    </tr>

Though IMHO I do think that people deserve the option to ask that their account be removed for whatever reason, and particularly while the Admin has the option to retain their contributions by re-classifying them as an "Inactive User"

I read somewhere that all boards should have a link to allow users to remove their account... this is why I created the function.

Yep, the law states that the user owns his informations and must be able to remove them from the internet if he wants to.

Well since MG's way only hides the username and doesn't delete anything at all, we come close to what would be legal, I don't think we should go any further TBH

Thaks for the feedback. I too prefer that a user can cancel his account (but not his information), but the concensus of opinion on the forum where I am the techie is different. I'll take mort's advice and hide the link.

I'm not sure about the property rights of users who write on a forum though, it would make a real mess of the threads if a single user's posts were to be removed. (Though that's an entirely different can of worms).

John, in Icy Phoenix 2.0 I have added a new function as mort is pointing out, you can "mask" a user so it looks like an "Inactive User" to everyone but admins (who can see who's behind).

Users cannot remove all their posts when requesting to be removed... they are just marked as inactive and all their data are hidden.

With "Inactive User" feature no one can complain, because no data of the user are being shown or used.
