Post subject: FAP SUPPORT - Allowing Reg. Users To Create "Sub-Categories"
Hello Mighty Gorgon & Artie! Big fan of FAP!!!!
As a forum admin, I'd like to control the main categories in the Album (which I can) but I would like registered users to be able to create sub-categories pretty much like they can in their personal galleries. Or, at least, allow a specific "Group" access to create their own sub categories without having to access the ACP. They can do this in their personal galleries, so I bet its not that hard to do in the regular album. I'm just not a PHP programmer by any means!
My forum is for a Hot Rod club. The main categories are primarily going to be "Car Shows, Meetings, Cruises, etc.". The users should be able to create their own sub categories under those topics without having me create them.
Is this possible at all?
Your help is greatly appreciated!
Site Info:
PHPBB Version 2.0.22
FAP Version 1.4.1

I still don't understand why someone is finding this useful... have you ever considered that in this way all your album may be messed up by "silly" users?
Anyway in the contrib package there is a folder with some modified files which were working fine with FAP 1.2.3, I guess they will work fine for FAP 1.4.x.
Try to look in: full_album_pack_contribaddonsCat Management

Hi Mighty!
Allowing users to create "sub-categories" in the categories I specify would be beneficial. I'm trying to make using this album as easy as possible. If the user is required to ask me to create a sub category first, it might deter them from even using the board. The demographic of the users on my board would primarily be late 50's + so they are not the most computer savy folks in general (but there are exceptions). I know they could get messed up by the "silly" users, but that is where the permissions would come in to play. I could give them create rights but no delete rights. Or they could have delete rights only to the sub categories they create.
Anyhow, I'll take a look where you suggested.
Thanks!
Phil

I can agree that in some cases that could be useful... but I'm still of my idea... if all users can create public cats there could be many problems... like letting users creating forum cats...
Anyway, it's your site and you know what you need better than me!
Let me know if the script still work for latest FAP.

Hi Mighty!
I've checked out a previous version of FAP and found the files I believe you were talking about. My 1.4.1 installation did not have those files.
Anyways, I've uploaded the "album_admin_cat.php" into the root of the forum. However, that file did not replace any existing file.
I'm not too good with creating my own code, so any help is appreciated.
What should I look for? I don't see / know what to look for in that code in "album_admin_cat.php".
Basically, I want to control the main album categories, but allow users to create the sub categories.
As always, Thanks a ton!
Phil

Post subject: Re: Allowing Reg. Users To Create "Sub-Categories"
Gorgon,
I know the feature isn't available, but there must be a way to allow users to create different sub folders in the specified categories I create. I rather administer what people upload, rather than requiring the user to message me about a new category they need made, create the category, message them back telling them its created, and then they upload.
If the end user could just create the subcategory, and upload pics to it, it would make the forum album flow much easier.
Right now my car club has a Yahoo forum I'm really trying to get away from. Heck, even if I could just have a few "special" individuals with rights to creat sub categories, that woudl be great. Is there any plugin that would only give specific users access to create subcategories, rather than having the user log into the admin panel?
Thanks again!
Phil

Did you try that script or not?
I guess it is working fine even if coded for an older version.
Please try it.

I "thought" I did but now looking for it again I'm not sure where to find it. My contrib folder does not have an "addons" folder at all for 1.4.1. Was that removed? What is the "script" name I should be looking for exactly?
Thanks again!
Phil

No, that script was not included with the 1.4.1 package.
I have it on CD, I'm pretty sure, but I do not have the CD with me.
I will try to get it by Sunday or maybe someone else can provide it.

Well I looked thru all my oder versions of FAP and could not find the script....Strange
....but I did find it at MightyGordon.com
I've never used it, nor have any knowledge of it's operation, but you can download it from this thread.

It seems strange but I found the files in the default installation of FAP in the root folder:
album_personal_cat_admin.php
Now I don't have the time to re-test it, but I'm sure it worked fine in the past.

Thanks Mighty. I finally figued it out using that script. I basically gave one of my "power users" access to create album categories. That is the only thing I want him doing, not touching the admin control panel, so this worked out perfect
Again, thank you!

Post subject: Re: Allowing Reg. Users To Create "Sub-Categories"
Hi,
I would like to allow a certain user group to create categories. If i understand correctly now only admins can create them throught the album_admin_cat.php?
Should i change something here?
$album_user_id = ALBUM_PUBLIC_GALLERY;
if (!$userdata['session_logged_in'])
{
redirect(append_sid(album_append_uid(LOGIN_MG . "?redirect=album_admin_cat.$phpEx")));
}
else
{
if ( ($userdata['user_level'] != ADMIN) && ($userdata['user_level'] != MOD) )
//if ($userdata['user_level'] != ADMIN)
{
message_die(GENERAL_ERROR, $lang['Not_Authorised']);
}
}
Thank youfor help!

Hi Guys,
I was wondering, this scipt do you have to use it like so"
www.yoursite.com/album_personal_cat_admin.php ?
Because if this is the case, I would like that a button will be present when you click, you can add a sub category. (just for moderators)
Is that possible, and how?
Regards,
N00b Robert

You need a link to this file?
Where?

Post subject: Re: Allowing Reg. Users To Create "Sub-Categories"
Hi MG,
No, not a link. I want mod users to have a button, where they can click on it, to create a sub categorie on their own.
Now, I have to create the category for them, before they can upload their pictures.
Am I making any sense?
Thanks

Post subject: Re: Allowing Reg. Users To Create "Sub-Categories"
Hello Mighty,
sorry for the confusion
Okay, I want the button on the album section, but not on the main page of the album section.
lets say I have made 4 main categories for example
1) party pics
2) funny pics
3) member pics
4) uploaded pics
I want my moderators / registered users to be able to create sub categories in the four main categories.
for example
Registered user wants to post pictures taken from a party last night.
I want himto be able to create a categorie named party
17-02-2008 in the categorie
party pics
I hope you get the idea.
Thanks once again.
Regards,
Robert

Post subject: Re: Allowing Reg. Users To Create "Sub-Categories"
I'm sorry, but that is currently not possible to allow subfolders only in subfolders.
Allow them to create personal category and then move categories to public folders.
