I have files in CPanel, to be honest I don't know which to remove and which not to as I need to start again completely with installing this forum. Can anyone help please?
Tom [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 15:38 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
This is not in CPanel (do you mean ACP by that?). Just type in the URL and then follow the instructions on the screen. Download the config.php when prompted to choose what to do with it (just to avoid running into errors) and then upload it to your root directory.
Then follow the regular installation instructions from the readme.
Claire [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 15:41 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
I mean I have a half done old forum in my CPanel which I want to remove and install this one from scratch. I have no forum now at the moment at all so have no ACP either.

What is CPanel?!

I have a server at a German provider and for uploads I use a FTP programm.
So what is your current problem?
Claire [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 16:20 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
Well my host completely closed my forum on Friendz4life so I am having to start again from scratch. I can't use FTP, only CPanel but don't know how to do a clean install using that, only adding images, editing chat, etc. Did you have a look at the CPanel link?
Tom [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 16:28 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
I took a look at CPanel, however the Demo doesn't work from here. because it uses a different port.
Does CPanel support MySQL & PHP?
Can you upload files with CPanel? Or is that your main problem right now?
Claire [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 16:49 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
I can yes and it does support them but I have never installed a forum before and don't know where to start. I have had an offer to do it for me but this isn't for a few days and at the risk of sounding impatient, I need the forum now as none of my members have a forum to use now since my host shut it down.
Would it be OK to give you access to my CPanel for you to have a look and maybe see what I mean?
TheLastLegion [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 16:56 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
are you a noobie with cpanel?
I run a webhosting company with cpanel pro x, and am willing to help you :)
Cpanel yes it allows you to upload files and comes with a web editor included, if your host doesn't have this then its probably very old version of cpanel.
Cpanel supports mysql & php. It depends if the host even updates the php/mysql. Then to optimize your mysql it comes with phpmyadmin
If you need help 24/7 or around the clock with these kind of things consider switching to my webhosting plans. :)

Hi, no I'm not really a newbie, I know how to edit files, upload files etc but not how to start from scratch, ie installing a forum which is what I need to do.
Thanks a lot for the offer but I have paid hosting on a Gold plan with over another year left so can't pay for another host. It's just really frustrating, all of this help and I just don't know how to do it still.

Where to start? Upload all the files from the XS package!
Then you acces your domain (where the uploaded files are) and start the DB installation. If you go to your site for the first time, you're automaticly taken to the installation. From there it should be self explaining.
And have a look at the readme.
If you wish, I could take a closer look at CPanel. I shouldn't be to hard...

Claire [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 17:09 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
Thanks guys, if you go to, www.chatterz.co.uk though, it is just blank. I have CPanel access but don't know where to upload the files to for a start.
TheLastLegion [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 17:10 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
you need to CHMOD the files and remove any restrictions you set in cpanel

Hi Tom
It isn't for the first time as I use to have my forum on the Chatterz address but moved it to Friendz4life as I couldn't install and my host offered to do it for me. Since we have fallen out though and he updated it badly (see all of my support questions, lol) he has deleted it so I am going back with my better host. The only trouble is that they don't do installs.
TheLastLegion [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 19:00 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
problem seems to be solved
i set it up enjoy claire :)
Tom [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 19:33 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
I just looked at the demo and I think the best way to do it, use file manager to upload the package as zip file and then extract it on the server. Looks pretty simple.
TheLastLegion [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 19:37 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
that causes heavy server load and most servers do not support that feature
because compressed feature some servers work
so i just uploaded them all manually
Tom [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 19:39 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
All manually? With this mask for 5-10 files at a time?!
Claire [ Thu 31 Aug, 2006 22:04 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!

Your hoster should provide this data. Or maybe you can see it in CPanel somewhere.
Do you have a database yet?

Ok, I've managed to set up the database and I set up all the permissions. However there is still an error about a missing file which is where it's supposed to be. I'm trying to figure this one out.

TheLastLegion [ Fri 01 Sep, 2006 02:10 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
Guys at phpbbXS i need your help with this because the error seems to be coming from phpbbXS
I was uploading one of the mysql backups Claire had made and it was appx 30 MB, once it was done about 20 min, it said "phpbb_album" was not found so i took a look at the mysql tables and i found "INSERT phpbb_album" and many other tables like those and it shows clearly it is inserting the album tables, however it keeps saying that error. My doubts are either Claire was using a old version of phpbbXs but she said it was the latest version so never mind that, or it could be that the other phpbbXs was custom modded which i doubt since Claire seems to be a person of "just install & use".
Anyhow does anyone have a clue what the problem could be? I tried then creating a mysql user and connecting it with her other mysql database it connected perfectly but it said "ERROR GENERATING NEW SESSIONS from session.php" so i chmodded session.php to 777, still nothing, something seems to be wrong...
 any help?
Claire [ Fri 01 Sep, 2006 02:12 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
Hi Stan.
The back-up was from the last version of PHPBBXS.

Claire had a lot of problems with her old board. Some of them might be Database related. She had the modding done by someone else who might not have done it correctly. Then after the update she ran into alot of problems.
It is possible, that the database is corrupt.

Hard to follow you through so many 3ds...
For other data, such as Database ones you have to ask your host...
Claire [ Sat 02 Sep, 2006 10:41 ] Post subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
3ds?
Yes I am emailing them now. Have to go out now though. Hopefully I'll have my forum back later or sometime this century. :P
