Post subject: White Pages IPv1.2.0.27
hi
i log onto my icy 27c last night, it was working fine during the day, and all forum pages are white,
so i come here to find out help, and found there is the new patch for 1.3.0.53, so i need to update my 27c to lastest patch aswell,
but seeing im getting white pages only on the forum i cannot do data base back up, or anything else on it to save anything
i have alot of info on there and photos that i dont want to lose, can someone point me in the right direction, i already had to start again when i started with 27c, so i need help to get it going again to be able to save my info for the upgrade,
in my c panel my cpu usage is max out 133/100 in the red, my server tells me it is coming from
my forum which is just white pages, and they cannot help with the icy program, the forum has run faultless for over a year now until now !
thanks
bloke

You are required to backup everything BEFORE upgrading - not afterwards.

But! you should have cPanel / phpMyAdmin that you can use to at least back up what you have, and ftp to backup your whole forum before it gets screwed up any more.

Just make this clear for me. Did you apply the 1.3.0.53 patch to your v1.*27 forum. ?

Post subject: Re: Icy 27c Help Needed For Upgrade To 1.3.0.53
i have not done any updating of the patch at all, i have not even uploaded it

as i have not been able to access icy 27 c to do the back up

i do have a data base back up i done in the icy 27c admin panel on the 5/9/2009
of the forum

Post subject: Re: Icy 27c Help Needed For Upgrade To 1.3.0.53
Firstly, that patch is not for IPv1.*27 it s STRICTLY IP v1.3* onwards.

I assume that you have cPanel of some sort and FTP that you can back up what files and folders exists at present on your website?

Because it would be prudent to back it up (even if it is broken) before you do anything else.

Have you been trying to add a MOD or anything else, because white pages are a chronic symptom of code alterations gone bad. ?

Stupid question I know - Do you have FTP access to the site the forum is on?

Post subject: Re: Icy 27c Help Needed For Upgrade To 1.3.0.53
yes

Post subject: Re: Icy 27c Help Needed For Upgrade To 1.3.0.53
Thank you.

Obviously before you can upgrade you need to get v1.*27 back on line.

Download the config.php from your site and keep it safe.

From your clean copy of IP v1.*27 (Hoping you still have one) remove the config.php and upload all the fresh files in the root to the root of your forum - And see if that works.

If it doesn't do the same with /includes/*.* but DON'T overwrite def_tree.php or def_themes.php and test again.

Maybe better if you download all the files (not folders) from the root and also /includes and keep them safe - because going backwards with this thing is based more on memory than anything else.

Something is probably looping or continuously trying to load / get stuff from the database, even though you can't see it. Much like when your pc locks up - CPU starts boiling - and you have to use the Task Manager to kill the application.

I also think it would be prudent for you to rename this topic "White Pages IPv1.2.0.27" and start a new thread if and when you are ready to upgrade. I also wouldn't be in a hurry to do that yet, because v1.3.0.53a should be released very soon.

But! Lets see if we can get 27 up and running again before you do anything.

Did you replace the /includes/files taking care not to overwrite the previously mentioned def_*.php files ?

Post subject: Re: White Pages IPv1.2.0.27
White pages are ugly enough things to fix at the best of times, but this one is getting uglier.

Rename the .htaccess file in the root of your forum to aa.htaccess

If there's no change - Restore the earlier backup of your Db...

If that don't work - It's worry time.

bloke [ Thu 10 Sep, 2009 10:06 ]
Post subject: Re: White Pages IPv1.2.0.27
aa for ht dont work

question how do i install the back up when not in icy control panel

also should i replace everthing i have done if that works

Lopalong [ Thu 10 Sep, 2009 10:14 ]
Post subject: Re: White Pages IPv1.2.0.27
Install your backup with Cpanel - phpMyAdmin - And if you can't then download mysqldumper (Search Google) - Install and use that.

Re replacing the the files again: If you are upgrading to IPv1.3 soon - then you will be removing all core files from your forum anyway when you do that. But it's up to you.

Post subject: Re: White Pages IPv1.2.0.27
You really should get it up and running because you will need to access it before you upgrade.

Stupid here never told you to open the /cache folder with FTP and delete all files inside it with the exception of index.html and .htaccess.

Not that that would have fixed it in the first place if it's actually caching corrupt files.

So do that and see what happens.

Then I'll run you through phpMyAdmin if I have to.

Desperation time!

ZIP up a copy of your backup DB and upload it to your server. Then PM a link to it along with the URL to the actual name of your forum http://blah-blah-blah/forum etc, and also your admin name and password.

And if giving me your password is a problem - You can always change it later.

Lopalong, I await you do not get upset because me hijacking this thread, but I guess this is some kind of cache error.

I reccomend you to take a look into This doc for the 1.3 series

Could work with a little bit of brainstorming and tweaking.

@ Novice programmer.

Thanks anyway mate, but his real problem started from here, and just got worse.

Code: [Hide] [Select]
[07-Sep-2009 16:51:27] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2745 bytes) in /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/xxxxxxxx/includes/album_mod/album_image_class.php on line 108

@ Crusty

You should have been receiving Memory Error Warnings from your site - How come you didn't mention that ?

Anyway here's what I found without too much explanation, because it's of little use to others.

All cache folders missing from files/album/
Corrupt def_files in includes.
Database is far too large to be handled by phpMyAdmin etc. So you really do need to install mysqldumper to handle the DB with.
All backups in the /backup folder are not worth anything if you ask me, because even the last one (which I used) was corrupt and needed fixing.

Added php.ini to the public_html/ for memory allocation of 32Mb even though the error message indicates that's the default anyway. (Because I did find that strange for an ISP to allocate that much)?

And the last time I looked it's still on line.

I also make no apologies for my post in your name!

And you owe me a 30 can pack of XXXX Gold too for sorting this mess out!

Corrupt def_files in includes.:;
i wonder how that happened

All backups in the /backup folder are not worth anything if you ask me, because even the last one (which I used) was corrupt and needed fixing.
Could you please explain why the files where corrupt, i only back with the admin panel ?

Post subject: Re: White Pages IPv1.2.0.27
"Memory Error Warnings from your site I have looked somewhere for them"

/community/error_log

"what do you do if you get them ?"

Just report it here at IP.

"All cache folders missing from files/album/. Hmm dont know about that."

No files/album/cache folders downloaded and funny enough are still not visible even though FTP says they exist?

I'll keep this one in memory.

"Corrupt def_files in includes. I wonder how that happened?"

No Idea! But remember when we overwrote /includes - We didn't do them because they needed to be left as is to avoid causing other problems. I only found them when converting your site back from 127.0.0.1 and putting your def_ files back - - - - - - That's why your default style got changed.

"Could you please explain why the backup files where corrupt, I only back with the admin panel ?"

32MB of Db is far too much for PHP to handle through phpMyAdmin etc, and the current limit is about 16Mb

I installed mysqldumper on your server to handle the DB and removed it when I finished. I didn't ask, so I didn't leave it there.
If you want to, I'll re-install it and backup your current Db - After that you could remove the old backups and just use mysqldumper.

Added php.ini. "Thanks for this too, i have no idea about that"

I just wrote a new "HOSTING" doc on that in the Docs Forum.

"So mate when do you want to start on my upgrade."

I'll be around the place somewhere, but don't do anything until the next full version is released as it's not worth the hassles.

I'll PM you later today re cleaning up all the confidential stuff we've discussed.

cheers lopalong
my original theme install with 2 clicks, with my header banner and nav links look like before it died and runs faster
noted taken of what you have said to me, i have learnt more about the operation of the ip forums over these last couple of days with your help, than thought i needed
plus it just goes to show, how good icy 27c is or was, how you want to look at it, all i have ever done is optimize it, and we are pretty busy site with photo's

so when i back up, because of the size of my data base, its best for me to use mysqldumper to back up and import, if so mysqldumper is the go and it is a must then so can you please ll re-install it and backup your current Db, and tell me how to maintain it

icy upgrades the go too, how can i help,
i know dont touch it
cheers
im still confused
pm me your xxxx gold details

Funny thing,

When we first started trying to sort this thing out I wasn't quite sure if Icy Phoenix was the problem, your server was the problem, YOU were the problem or I was!

Glad it wasn't me!

Hehehehe!

It was more of a server issue than anything else because that's what started all of the problems off.

And the MODS could move this topic to the Archives I should imagine. Then we can start again.

hmm

Besides the muking around, this has taught me new stuff thanks to you Lopalong
One thing i would like to say is ICY is the best around forum, i have tryed them all, but one thing they are all missing is, how to maintain them with the controls they have, or does that not matter, is it all the programming that makes it, what about all the people who want and use the programs, is that what you are making them for, How about some easy word instruction on how to maintain your forum, with the optimise and cache buttoms, tell people what they do, let them understand in simple, and what it does, Press Optimise and it does this, what ever! we are all not php or html knowledge as you would find 99% of forum users are not, and only 1% if are hosting,
food for thought

Mate, we've been putting docs together for this for some time, and just when we've finished crossing the t's and dotting the i's - MG comes out with a new version of IP and we start all over again.

Probably more docs in the archives that need updating than there are available docs for the latest - But we're getting there slowly.

Contributors here for the real guts of the thing are a "Rare" breed - in case you haven't noticed.
