Is there a way to disable Photo Album and remove it from the menu?

Use Dynamic Menu in CMS and you can customise which links are shown.
Set CMS permission to ADMIN for album.
Set all permissions to ADMIN in ACP => Album so no users will be able to use the album anyway.
