I think you should remove it...you could always replace it with the forum tour from www.oxpus.de...

Personally speaking I think it is a great way of telling your members things..

It's really different from forum tour...

I've voted NO

No, no, no, no...

I really use the KB as an independent place where relevant articles are published. I mean... For instances, my web site is dedicated to Stephen King, well If I publish a Biography about him, after awhile the post would be lost, unless it's sticky, but I have too many articles to use them all as Sticky, If I did it would be boring to see the forum as most of the posts would be sticky's

At least, please, please, please, please, let us decide wether if we want it or we don't!!!

And last... Staff shouldn't vote here, isn't it?

That's why i've added it :D

Yes!
If someone should need it, he could always try to apply the mod to his forum. For an unused functionality, nobody should suffer from security problems!
I think also the 'Help Desk' could be rethought. At least, it should be possible to disable it from XS...

Subject: Re: Removing KB From XS
It doesn't have some many bugs at the time... BTW if you think that this could be a problem for security you can always remove it from your site.....

Same goes for Helpdesk

Subject: Re: Removing KB From XS
I'm using KB for newspaper articles. Categories are the arguments (environment, report, politics, economy ...) and Types are the name of the source (the name of newspapers).

I have voted no because I need it or something like it.

but, in the same time, I have a lot of problem with this Mod, problems that seems to have only me, and if the staff will decide to remove it from the next build ... I will accept the decision without cry ... the best for me is to have another Mod like KB for the management of articles.

If the option "YES" win...then you can remove KB, but, it would be nice that KB could be a XS MOD. If a user need KB (like me, and others) we can install it.

PS.: this link: http://www.icyphoenix.com/viewforum.php?f=4 and the topics there, must be in KB

i am agree that the solution is one of this
or not remove and put a guide with steps to kill it the users can not use it

or put it standalone as xs mod, as you says

one or other are great solutions in my opinion

the guide to uninstall are less or more the steps that i post, ill do it in my sites and never have problems the vulnerabilitys with kb in my forum (but yes with other mods ) (ooopsss)

well i forgot another option, search another mod that replace kb

but i cant find it for the moment

And do you really want to try another new system from zero, integrate it with XS, test if it's secure, let the users publish articles...

That's a huge work!!!!

The two options are:

-Remove it

-Leave it

Don't think it's a good idea start developing a new mod!!!!

Maybe an intermediate solution is to keep on developing XS keepin' the modifications in the common.php for kb and release separatedly a KB pack, with the files. You could remove the links from the block and create a new block specific for KB, released with the KB pack...

I mean... I updated from Minerva a month ago and if I would have known that you were planning to remove KB, probably I wouldn't have updated to XS... :(

And maybe the poll should have been with this options:

- Yes
- No
- I don't care!

the problem is not problem

if maintain the minimun in xs,
the mod is almost standalone
as you can see in the original release attached
read the .txt
is almost upload it and works
http://www.phpBBXS.eu/viewtopic.php?p=2565#2565

the discussion is if this is in the official release included or as independent module

Subject: Re: Removing KB From XS
How about moving it to the /contrib/ folder? That way who ever needs or wants it can use it, and it won't be part of the default installation anymore therefore not posing a security risk...

Subject: Re: Removing KB From XS
delete the bastard! :mrg:

I'd prefer you spend your time fixing things that actually have a good use.. is secure.. and (pretty much) bug free
plus.. I've never used it anyways :mrg:

what's wrong with creating a new forum.. or maybe category even
and name that KB.. put all your stuff in there
give everyone permission to view
admin only to post..
reply could be to anyone.. or admin whatever you prefer

Subject: Re: Removing KB From XS
Just to show you what I mean when I said to use forums instead of KB, I've created this quick feature...

http://www.phpbbxs.eu/viewforum.php?f=4&kb=true

I'm still using the standard viewforum and viewtopic... but attaching the address with &kb=true you will have a different template which looks more like the KB one...

This is just a little demo of what can easily be done to simulate KB.
