Icy Phoenix

I've seen the new Ajax Shout box on the spanish PHPbb support site and I think it's a good candidate for the next release of Icy Phoenix (and the same for the Medal MOD), so that's the reason why I open this Topic, to gather people who agree with me on this. Maybe if all of us show our agreement we could be heard for the Mighty Gorgon god :roll: (now the death stare will kill my 5 Archangels at once - Heroes universe joke).

Thanks for the suggestion... but why you don't like the AJAX Chat which is in Icy Phoenix?

Medals mod won't be added to standard package... it will remain a mod.

I like it, but I think the Shout Box (not the Ajax Chat) would be more attractive with the users side-bar, it's more similar to a mIRC channel. People don't fix their eyes to the Connected Users Box in order to know who are active on the Chat, with the side-bar we'd make things easier. That's all. Also, it would be great if the Shoutbox might have a read-only option for Guests (not logged in or registered), because the chat is an element which usually draw people (make curiosity).

I think it is even more powerful than the AJAX Chat you are pointing at.

You have archive, and you may see who is online in the forum index page if you enable the feature in the ACP.

You may even use this chat as a block in any page you would like to add it.

I've already updated a version for the next release of Icy Phoenix which includes modified templates in keeping with the text format and with Icy's VAR template requirements, along with the optional code to locate the medals above the post-bits. Also the English lang files have been modified slightly. :(

The instructions also all start and finish with // or <!-- Medal MOD begin and end etc, to make it a little easier to install than your last experience. ;)

But I still yet have to sort out with ThE KuKa what he want's to do with the original, or he can just have the new one to release. ;)

I've done the same to all of the "Little" mods "I" modded etc. And they all conform to Icy Standards ;)

All the code has been changed for the new stuff, vars replacing strings in templates etc, and now I'll wait for the Public Release to re-check them before anything else.

Yeah, I had taken a look at it (one of the last messages is mine), but in order to see who's chatting you have to go to the page bottom, so I still think a side bar with the users would be better. People wants to have the control of most things directly at first glance, they usually refuse to navigate down the screen to see (or search for) details. So, if you can have them on the same screen, the Chat would be improved, that's my point.

Nevertheless, I want to point out that I think both Chats (Shoutbox and the other big one, which is independent) are wonderful features, I never expected such things for a forum or CMS, and they are so fine. But, like almost always about everything, they can be improved. That's all.

That is just a template issue... if you know html it is really easy to move the box on the right. :wink:
