We are currently running a modified version of the Smartor photo album
We have over 250,000 pictures in our gallery and have experienced several performance problems due to badly written code in the Smartor album that doesn't do too well with a large amount of pictures. We have had to strip out quite a few things in the index and other pages just to get acceptable page load times
We are considering migrating to FAP and just curious if there will be similar performance issues with this mod with the amount of pictures we have. We have a 10 million picture capacity and will be over 1.5 million pics by the end of the year.
Thanks for any help

FAP SUPPORT - 250,000 Picture Gallery - Upgrade From Smartor To FAP?
Subject: Re: 250,000 Picture Gallery - Upgrade From Smartor To FAP?
I have a 4000 pics gallery... but it is really small compared to your gallery.
FAP has some functions which speeds up page loading and thumbs generation... but the best thing to do is make a live test...

Hi Might Gorgon - thanks for reply back.
As you might know, we have had to strip alot of stuff our of Smartors Album just to get it to function at acceptable levels. Our album index only displays category and pic count - and even then it the category query can run quite slow if people are in the process of adding pictures (as the SQL Cache of the query is not able to be used)
We have had some discussion out at Smartors site and it seems to be the feeling that we need to find out a way to implement a caching system for the album in order to have acceptable functionality - especially headed toward 1 million pictures as we are now.
Does FAP have any sort of caching system or have you got anything in the "developmental oven" for this sort of thing?
Please let me know any ideas you (or anyone else for that matter) might have.
Thanks

FAP doesn't have a built in caching system for templates or sql.
At the moment the only cache FAP does have is the thumbnails system, which is really different from standard Album.
If you can install FAP on a test server with all the pictures do you have I can take a look on how fast it is and I will try to optimize the code to speed up things.
