Kinda bumping the topic a little, I'd like to say thanks to omarska for suggesting this. It's something I was thinking of asking too.
I remember when I first came across a phpbb chat mod. The chat box itself worked perfectly, the problem was how do you get the other members find out if anyone else is online? - The answer, AJAX.

It'd be great if the chat page had a list of members who are currently on the site, but not on the chat page so that you could "invite them" etc.
After a short period of time, they get a message saying "Jarrod wants you to join him in chat..." etc

Good suggestions... but they need skills and free time to be implemented... if someone who is having both of them is willing to code this... it is more than welcome.
