Post Smileys And BBcode Problem With Italian Language

I installed Icyphoenix with original english language as downloaded from this site.
Smileys and bbcode work fine.

Then I downloaded Italian language and installed in /language
the portal is still in english

I removed (renamed) the folder lang_english:
Gives some errors about some files not found

renamed the folder lang_italian into lang_english and rename lang_english to pippo
Now I have italian language but smileys and bbcode don't work
clicking on a smilyey or a bbcode icon do not insert the code in the text box.

I replaced the .js file found in the it language folder with the one found in the en folder but no results....

Any way to have both Italian AND bbcode/smyleys available ?

Any help greatly appreciated !!!

Thanks !!

Hi, gumbo

What you did was NOT correct way of installing a language. You should upload back original content of your lang_english directory in directory /language. Then upload your lang_italian directory also in /language dir. Then go to ACP->Board Settings and set there your default language. When you make sure that everything works OK with Italian (bbcode, etc.), you could try to delete/rename your lang_english dir, although I would not recommend it.

Hope this helps

Hi Omarska,

thanks for your reply.
I suspected there must be a cleaner way to install a language, however, installing as you suggest, I still have English language, that's why I did it my way.
Any suggestion as to the reason why selecting my language in ACP-->Configuration-->Board I still get the english language ?

Thanks

I had to reneme the lang_english folder (I renamed to old_language_english) to make it work.
If I have a folder named lang_english the language will alway be english, no matter what you write in the board setting interface....
Well anyway it seems to work now.

If anyone has same problem here's what I did to make it work:

- copy lang_italian in /language
- setup Italian as default language in ACP-->Configuration-->Board
- rename lang_english to something else
- chmod 644 folder lang_italian

That should do it. It worked for me.

gumbo,

In ACP you set default language for your board, as well as default language for new users. Then each user has option in their profile to switch language to any of installed languages. The reason you didn't see Italian when you switched to it in ACP, is that in your profile was still selected English lang. All users not logged in, or any new user should see Italian lang.
So, basically, in your language dir you should have lang_english and lang_italian dirs, then set board default lang in ACP to Italian, and then go to your profile and se Italian as YOUR default lang (profile settings are per user).

What you did may or may not work, but is definitely not normal way of doing it
