Icy Phoenix

I was wondering if this portal you have running this site (im using the black pearl template) is working with phpbb3 because the current release says there will not ba a working version of it but it looks like thats what is running.


if it is compatable can i have the download link? i have been looking for the better part of today at several threads but im still confused.

if it is not, is there some kind of portal i can use and still keep black pearl running on it. if not can i install Icy Phoenix and run the boards seperatly?

sorry for so many questions, i just really like this template and would like to have the portal too.

You did a lot of confusion. Black Pearl is a template available both for phpBB3 and Icy Phoenix. Only, BP can't be installed on 1.1.0.15 version. It needs 1.1.10.25 RC3. Indeed it's included into that version's pack ;)

What dNow said is correct, I would add that Icy Phoenix is based upon phpBB 2 core files, even if many functions in Icy Phoenix have been ported from phpBB 3.

ok...so i would have to install icy phoenix and phpbb3 seperatly? or will they work together?

You can install them separately, but then you won't have the same userbase, options and many other things... :sad:

If you just need a portal for phpBB 3 I wouldn't install Icy Phoenix... just get one the portal already available for phpBB 3 and check if Black Pearl is available for that portal, otherwise you will have to create it starting from subSilver 2 template files.

If you need something more complex than a portal then you may try to use Icy Phoenix, but it would work best if it controls everything.

So, to be short: try to understand what you really need, and then try to install on a test server (you can use XAMPP to make test on your local PC) both IP and phpBB 3 so you can try to have a better understanding of the features they have and that you really need.

A small tip: if the core part of your site is the forum, then I would suggest you to use phpBB 3... :wink:

ok thanks...that helps a lot. the site has just been a forum for about 4 years now and i was wanting to add the main page with a photogallery and downloads section but wanted to stay with black pearl. i guess i will check and see if it is available with phpbb3 portal.

This site is still phpBB 2... :LOL:

I would call it phpBB 2.5 because Icy Phoenix it is an hybrid version between phpBB 2 and phpBB 3. :wink:

well good work on it, it looks great, i wish it would work with phpbb, i understand it takes time from yourself to have to rebuild it. if i knew enough about the stuff i would see if i could make a template like black pearl for another portal but i dont know how to do any of that so ill just figure something else out.
