If I understand it right... you should go into ACP -> Users -> Ranks and shoose the rank you want to change... or create a new one. i think u shoud execute this

ALTER TABLE `phpbb_users` CHANGE `user_rank` `user_rank` INT( 11 ) NULL DEFAULT '-1';

becasuse

-1 is for ranking by days
-2 is empty
0 is for ranking by posts
