 PhpbbFM To Icy Phoenix
Hello, I just discovered this super CMS today and I'm already convinced to use it on my site
Is it possible to make an upgrade from pfpbbFM to Icy Phoenix?
I want to keep the forum structure, board messages, private messages, users, medals, ranks, usergrups and the Knowledge base.
my phpbbFM based forum is www.doizecisti.modstruct.ro

but this is not important now...
my opinion is if you wish icyphoenix, to clean your files and database before you try to upgrade

By cleaning the files and database, you mean to start with a new fresh install of the script and the members have to register again?

noooo
by cleaning u will keep your users , posts and other things like attachments ....
clean tables will clean all unnecesary tables for icyphoenix including some mods u have there
u shoud read instructions very good before you start doing anything
and most important thing is that you have a backup in safe place your files and database from phpbbFM

 Re: PhpbbFM To Icy Phoenix
I undersood
I have done the backup of the files and folders from FTP, and the database from phpmyadmin.
So... I have to see now what tables are generated by Icy Pheonix. Then I have to delete the rest of the tables in phpmyadmin. After that, I follow the instructions to upgrade from phpbb2 (deleting the unneccesary files and folders in FTP and uploading the files and folders of Icy Pheonix, replacing the old ones)
Am I right?
Or...
Could I do in other way?...
If I make a fresh install on a new domain, could I import the users and forum structure (with all the board messages)?
I think it will be an easier way, in the end... I will be pleased if I'll keep just the members and the forum posts, not necessarily the rest of the content (grups, KB, medals, et cetera..)

 Re: PhpbbFM To Icy Phoenix
OK, I just woke up after a night of work with databases and tables... All the night I dreamed only databases and stuff
Thist upgrade is really out of my knowledge. I cannot do it by myself.
The only hope is:
If I make a fresh install on a new domain (I do want to change the domanin), could I import the users and forum structure (with all the board messages)?
It will be great if I'll keep just the members (644) and the forum posts (27000), not necessarily the rest of the content (grups, KB, medals, et cetera..)

 Re: PhpbbFM To Icy Phoenix
if you make a complete copy of you site using xammp or wamp... (it is a long process) but you can then have a working site on your own computer... and if you mess it up you can start again without messing up your live site
then use the format limun posted above.... and you will then have a basic phpbb forum with all your posts ect...
then you can upgrade to Icy...
it is impossible to keep anything that is not in standard phpbb unless you know your mysql backwards...
but you can then re- add all the mods you need and update your users accordingly..
hope that helps

IcyPhoenix UK is off-line permanently due to lack of time to update mods.
if anyone is interested in my templates I will upgrade them to Icy 2.0.

Yes
man its not so complicated and like DrWho suggested you can practice on your PC
BTW about cleaning database with "clean_tables_ip.php" u dont have to think a lot it is a process based on "click and select tables" you want delete

Yes, I work with a copy of the site on a test subdomain (test.modstruct.ro), so I'm safe on this point of view. The problem is that I tryed for several times to clean up the unnecessary tables, in different ways and order, but each time the result was some sql errors, not a functional site
Now I came back from weekend and I will start all over again with a fresh mind (hope so )
This it what will I do:
1. restore the phpbbFM on the test subdomain
2. run the update_to_ip.php file
3. run clean_old_files_ip.php and delete the tables that are not on the list of tables of Icy (I noted that list down from a fresh installation of Icy made before, two days ago)
4. see what happened and tell you guys
Edit: ...still no results

2 and 3 are the wrong way round you need to clean the database first... otherwise you could delete tables needed for Icy

 Re: PhpbbFM To Icy Phoenix
OK, I tell you what I have done
1. I saved from phpbbFM database all the tables that a phpbb2 contains too.
2. I deleted all the files in FTP (after I copied them to my HD)
3. I dropped the database in phpmyadmin (I saved a full backup too, just in case)
4. I installed a fresh phpbb2
5. I restored the tables that I have saved on point 1.
at this moment I had a phpbb2 installed, with all the users, forums, and messages, usergoups, private messages etc
6. I upgraded the phpbb2 to Icy Phoenix

 Re: PhpbbFM To Icy Phoenix
It is working satisfactory, but there are a few details I have to make work:
- The spoiler bbcode and cell bbcode doesn't work (is possible to not work others either, but I don't tested each, yet) SOLVED
- The avatars from the old database are not displayed in forum (viewtopic), only in profiles. In messages written before the conversion the avatars apear, in messages written after the conversion the avatars are not displayed)
- Users cannot upload new avatars (CHMOD on images/avatars is set 777) SOLVED
- The calendar.php page is a blank page (only header)
- The statistics.php page is not loading (some message about memory limit, I found on this site solutions, but it does not resolve the problem) SOLVED
- could not set the forum.php as homepage
- could not solve the "link this topic" problem (this is a modification, it does not reffer to conversion from phpbbFM) SOLVED
- this list may be longer, as soon as I get more feedback from users I will know
