what's wrong with creating a new forum.. or maybe category even
and name that KB.. put all your stuff in there
give everyone permission to view
admin only to post..
reply could be to anyone.. or admin whatever you prefer

But:

1.- If I create a forum where everyone could answer topics would always be too disordered.

2.- If users cannot post, I won't know their opinion about it.

3.- Much more difficult to find an article inside a forum.

4.- So, pretty much ordered in the kb

MG, It looks like a forum, indeed!!! And I cannot use "pagination" like I do in this article: http://www.ka-tet-corp.com/portal2.0/musica-kba59.html

Does XS suppor sub-templates? If so, a possible solution could be designing a brand new template to use with a forum dedicated to the knowledge base...

And, what happens with my articles? (72 loooooonng articles and on) Would I loose them?

Which are the files in XS that are modified by the Knowledge Base mod only those 2 lines in constants.php or anything else? Because if that's the only one, I can't see the problem!

And, finally, anybodyknows a web that's been hacked because of a kb bug?

I voted NO becouse in other board I use it for some reason (I've a site dedicated to fan-writing and the messages are inserted in the KB)

I suggest to create an "Addon" specifibg that KB is a mod that needs the "register_global" set to off to be safely used in the board.

Are you sure, Antonio?

In my website register_global is off, and KB works fine. Or is it that it has some programming trick to enable register_global only in KB?

My site is register-global at off and in safe mode:

I mean.
Regardless removing KB in the next version I'm proposing to release an "Addon" specifing that the use of KB on a server with register global set to ON is like you go around with a stick in the back that says "kick me"

1) then don't allow them to post.. or make a diffrent forum for discussion about it..
2) poll? or what I said at 1
3) why? forum has a search function.. and you can create diffrent forums in a category
4) dunno.. never seen any advantage in using it..

Knowledge Base MOD for phpBB

Fountain Of Apples wrote:
A Knowledge Base MOD has been a very highly requested MOD, however it has never found its way into our MOD Database. This MOD would essentially establish a Knowledge Base which would be integrated into phpBB. The users of a board would be able to browse, post, etc. in the Knowledge Base using their same account on phpBB.

The Knowledge Base should be fully configurable from within the Admin Control panel. An admin would be able to set up categories for articles to be posted in (subcategories could be an available feature at MOD author's discretion). Permissions for the Knowledge Base should be able to be set on a per-category basis, similar to phpBB's Forum Permissions panel (with the same ALL/REG/PRIVATE/MOD/ADMIN groups). Permissions should be able to be set for any action that can be taken in the Knowledge Base, such as posting articles, commenting on articles, editing, deleting, etc. Users and/or groups can be assigned to moderate categories. The Knowledge Base should also integrate other phpBB technologies where appropriate, for example, BBCode for posting articles/comments.

Yes, I do. These sites are restored and the mod has been removed. The mod is nice, but the quality of it is terrible. That MX module thing is crap.

Subject: Re: Removing KB From XS
I think new "news" mod can support KB.............

it has categories and sub-categories........and News mod NO

I think the News mod MUST have cats and sub-cats ..........and some modify to code can add in the mod ("news") the possibility to create KB (like "show in Home page" - add "show in KB").........

In fact i'd ask if now it's possible to add Topics like news in Kb.......but i think is no possible......

There are sites like ***.vivicentro.org which use kb like standard news board......the Daily news

This is my idea.........

I don'tknow if it's clear........
