Icy Phoenix

I want to use Icy Phoenix and I currently have an XS forum but I do not want to drop the XS forum (until you get the first full version out) so is therte any other way to import the XS db into Icy Phoenix without using the upgrade.(My web host only allows 1 db at a time so the only way to seperate ip db from xs db is to use different table prefixes) I only recently upgraded from phpBB so I don't want to make my users reregister again.

If you follow correctly the installation instruction you will not lose anything. You have to execute from root the udate_to_ip.php file after logging as admin, and then upload the files on the package.

I think he wants 1 query running at a time, like Safe Mode DB query.

Uhmmmmm.... I think is not so simple. Yes, you can use different tables, but if you need only test IP I think that the better way is do it in local.
Anyway I think that after upgrade to IP the XS version still works without problem. But in my opinion is not a good idea let works 2 forum on 1 only DB.

Maybe keep the xs dictionary on site

Make a new dictionary like e.g.: icyphoenix/

Place icyphoenix files

Make backup of Xs and ALL database for Xs

copy config.php from xs to ip

run upgrade_to_ip.php (install/upgrade_to_ip.php move to root of ip)

Run from Xs version

If duplicate error, Ip must already have it.

I want to keep the XS forum running completely seperately until the final release version of IP as there might not be ways to update IP betas to full version but there probably will be to upgrade XS to IP. If I do it the last way, won't IP take the tables of XS. (I don't understand MySQL so I might be wrong)

Sorry guys, I'm not expert but I have done something like that when I was on free hosting and needed more forums in one DB (yes, it is not quite the perfect way to work, but when you have not relevant interests and limited means... :mrgreen: )


If I understood you correctly, you want to continue working with XS while you ONLY TEST Icy upgrading it from your XS on the same db you have. If I understood your situation, I would do this way and I think it's quite easy:



0. First of all BACKUP ALL your forum: files and db.



Then:

1. Backup your database (from phpmyadmin, both structure and datas in one .sql)

2. Upload a new XS (the same version you have) in another folder completely separated from your real forum and re-install it with a different table prefix (lets assume TEST_phpbbXS_ ).

3. After having installed the new XS, delete all TEST_phpbbXS_ tables you just created :mricy:

4. Take the backup at point 1 and with a text editor mass-replace all original prefixes with TEST_phpbbXS_

5. Via phpmyadmin, import the .sql file you just edited.



Now you got a perfect copy of your XS with different table prefixes. You can upgrade it to Icy and do all the tests you want.

If something goes wrong, be glad having observed point 0. :mryellow:

Thanks but if it requires uploading XS again(it took 5 hrs last time) I'll probably just leave it. I am on paid hosting but to get a second db, you would have to upgrade from the 1.99 package I have past the 3.99 and 5.99 packages to the 11.99 package (thats £ not $)

5 hours to upload XS ??? :shock:


I suggested to reupload and reinstall because it is very simple... doing that without reinstalling is not the same... you can see if you are able to copy your directories instead of uploading it and only change the config.php of the fake-XS.

(but you still need to backup and redump the database with modified prefixes)

I'm on satelite broadband (as I can't get anything else) and the download speed is fine but the upload speed is tiny (121 kbps)

You can backup your db in GZIP format, and then use MySQLDumper to reimport it.

GZIP format will be a small file, so you can download and reupload it quickly.
