I'm try to replace the phpBB BBcode with Icy Phoenixs BBcode, But I think I need some help, as I don't fully understand either of them.

That is very difficult, because the system in phpBB 3 around the BBCode is totally different with the system in Icy Phoenix (based on the system in phpBB 2)

You can try to convert some BBcode in Icy Phoenix to phpBB3 but the whole system is very difficult to implement it in phpBB 3.

If you would like, I can help with some BBcode to implement it to phpBB 3.

I'm ok with modifig the code, and data base, I mainly need to know how the icy Phoenix BBcode, is working, i.e. an explatination of what each function dose, and how to use it so I can modify the code correctly.

is the CyberAlien BBCode Parser  what Icy Phoenix uses?
