 Re: [SOLVED] Banner
hi again,
you may want to replace the background stretchy of the logo, something like this in stylesheet.css
find:
#top_logo{
border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
background: url('./images/top_header.png') repeat;
height: 150px;
replace with:
#top_logo{
border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
background: url('./images/YOUR_PICTURENAME.png') no-repeat;
height: 150px;
maybe add and play with the width alittle and upload your picture
or make the mainlogo (the bird) fit the whole space wich would keep it linking to the mainpage when clicked on
I really like this thread..... However, I'm a little confused....
Let me say what I want to accomplish, and then you'll understand why I'm doing it this way....
- I want to keep the "Bird" thing available, however, I want it moved toward the right hand side. From there, when important things come up, then I can put in different logos...ie Breast Cancer research logo, Christmas logo, A couple bottles of wine for New Years, or whatever.
- Secondly, I need the present logo centered. (See attached picture)... However, if I do use the "Bird" logo, I need it to only fill in the blank area. I don't want it to touch the new Navy logo...just in addition to it...
I think I need to make adjustments to this part, but I don't know what each "0" means or what it does...
border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.....
I'm in the process of building this website up. It was orginally a 2.0.20 website, and I moved it to www.NavyDep.com/forum However, in about two weeks, it will be moved to where it should have been in the first place called, www.NavyFamilies.com (which is why the logo looks like this)... However, right now it's at www.NavyDep.com/forum

hi 93Corvette,
93corvette wrote: - I want to keep the "Bird" thing available, however, I want it moved toward the right hand side. From there, when important things come up, then I can put in different logos...ie Breast Cancer research logo, Christmas logo, A couple bottles of wine for New Years, or whatever.
you may want to have a look at overal_header.html and find this block of code:
<div id="top_logo">
<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
<tr>
<td height="150" align="left" valign="middle"><a href="{U_INDEX}">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a></td>
<td align="center" valign="middle"><h1>{SITENAME}</h1><span class="gen">{SITE_DESCRIPTION}</span></td>
<td align="right" valign="top"> </td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
looking at the attached picture (cause the links don t show the same) i guess you want to also loose the site description stuff?
in that case replace it with something like this:
<div id="top_logo">
<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
<tr>
<td height="150" align="right" valign="middle"><a href="{U_INDEX}">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
for this switching of logo's could be a mod available somewhere ..i dont know.. but yes this can also be done manually uploading a new one
Quote: - Secondly, I need the present logo centered. (See attached picture)... However, if I do use the "Bird" logo, I need it to only fill in the blank area. I don't want it to touch the new Navy logo...just in addition to it...
by present logo i asume you mean the background pic ("the boat" .... LOL)
why not edit the picture and paste an empty piece of sea at the right side and then make it full width (the pic or its settings)?
this way the sitelogo would cover the emty part of sea and have a nice back ground (sea) and not give you any empty spaces
Quote: I think I need to make adjustments to this part, but I don't know what each "0" means or what it does...
border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
i m just an amature too and if i want to know something or in case of doubt ...i try changing it and see what has changed (padding will shift it up down left or right)
hope this helped a little, dont forget to back up files before modding them

 Re: Banner
I finally had time to make the changes you suggest.... (Thanks for helping me)...
So I got the bird thing to the Right hand side, and it looks great...
- I still haven't figured out how to make the site logo centerered... I added the words "align="center" but that doesn't do it....
- Secondly, once I get the site logo fixed, what I want to do is have the "Site Name" above, and the "Site Description" below the bird thingy. That way I can add text like "Support" then "Breast Cancer Researce" of something like that. The bird logo I will swap with different picutures...
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
------------ My code now ------------
<!-- ORIGNAL NAVYDEP LOGO TO LEFT SIDE
<div id="top_logo">
<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
<tr>
-->
<div id="top_logo">
<table width="100%" align="center" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
<tr>
<!-- ORIGINAL (The Bird Thingy)
<td height="150" align="left" valign="middle"><a href="{U_INDEX}">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a></td>
-->

 Re: Banner
hi Corvette,
i m having a hard time understanding this, first of all i ld like to ask you to post code using the code bbcode button (c# twice, at the beginning and end of the posted code)
secondly i would loose the "original" code parts and just back up the original file for if you want to go back (or see what the original was), this would make it somewhat easier to understand what's going on and what not (for me it would anyway )
third .. is there a link i can view instead of screenshots?
what i now think i see is that you ve also edited the sitelogo_small.png? but i can t make sure what i'm seeying really (the link you gave to your test board in your first reply to this looks unmodified)
last on this ... i would not use the site name and description to adress the event you want to display because those two have a bigger function than you think, it truly names your board to the browser tab, search engines, bookmarks and probably a whole lot more (this would also be a BIG HINT to Fangedaxa )
i would loose the site name and description from the code (to make it invisible) but keep it in the ACP (to identify your site and not loose its functions)
edit: PS ..i would also "mirror" sitelogo (the phoenix/bird) because it now looks bored or unintrested in the site and ready to fly away
so what i mean is .. make it face the other side
Edit2: to save you some time (so now all you do is rename it to sitelogo_small.png):

I think your saying to revert back to the way the orginal download. The problem is I spent hours making into a blue background. The orginal BLack Pearl has never been modified, only the Rainbow pearl. If you go to www.NavyDep.com/forum and select the Black Pearl theme in the UserCP, then it's all orginal. However, if you select NP Blue from the UserCP then you will see my logo screen.

I only changed to files. The stylesheet.css AND the overall_header.html. I also upload my site logo also... I will post these codes here...

I totally agree... I orginally thought it would be cool to have a feature like this, but after reading what you said here, I didn't realize that it had bigger function, and beleive me, I don't what any problems. So I will actually just kill the Phoenix, the site name, and the Description just to make it easy.... All I would want is to center my site logo... Again, the site is www.NavyDep.com/forum.....
edit: PS ..i would also "mirror" sitelogo (the phoenix/bird) because it now looks bored or unintrested in the site and ready to fly away

 Re: Banner
i think we have to make sure first what exactly we re gonna try here, there should be no problem to use the sitelogo_small with a text, i m just saying don t use the site name and description for it
to give you a few example options:
1 - use the top back ground together with the clickable sitelogo (and maybe text)
2 - use only your navy top, in this case i would make it replace the sitelogo instead of the background wich would make the whole banner clickable
Quote: I think your saying to revert back to the way the orginal download. The problem is I spent hours making into a blue background. The orginal BLack Pearl has never been modified, only the Rainbow pearl. If you go to www.NavyDep.com/forum and select the Black Pearl theme in the UserCP, then it's all orginal. However, if you select NP Blue from the UserCP then you will see my logo screen.
no i m not trying to say that, what i mean is before you start modding a file you download a clean copy of it and save it incase you want to go back to the way it was before you last modded it, so there would be no need to keep codes you modified and are not used between <!--original UN-USED CODE--> in the file, wich can only be confusing/destracting in my opinion (i keep reading it eventhough it does nothing if you catch my drift)
i'm sorry but i can t change the style if i m not a "depper" thats why i still can not view, maybe a test account will help (you may PM me the details)? or maybe you can set the blue one as temporary default
oooh and next time just post the part of the code we re talking about please
So first we gotta make clear what the goal would be, like one of the two described above or maybe you have a third idea?
PS it would always be a good idea to download all files as a backup when you are at a "safe goodlooking point" anyway (this would even save you if your host screws up)
______
Edit:
i was bored or stuck anyway
please try this:
<div id="top_logo">
<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
<tr>
<td height="150" align="right" valign="middle"><a href="{U_INDEX}">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
and in css:
#top_logo{
border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
background: url('./images/dep.png') no-repeat;
height: 150px;
}
down and upload the bird posted above as sitelogo_small.png
and upload this one
your boards look set to the original size so this should work just fine ... do make back ups first
LOL...i know it looks like the last pic is missing ...just click on it anyway .. LOL

 Re: Banner
Joshua,
What I'm going to do is start completely over and reload the theme again (Rainbow Pearl). What I never did is make a back up of the orginal, and I really would like to get everything back to normal with the complete site, then once I do a backup, then I will go back to working on the logo.... I need to create a starting spot that is downloaded and saved.
What I didn't want to do is take away from the orginal purpose of this orginal thread, which was solve. What I'll do is open up a new thread if I can't get the banner to work on the reload.
Again, thankyou very much for helping me.
Craig

 Re: Banner
first of all you re welcome,
it did not look to me like alot was allready modded but if you see a reason to go back to a clean install there must be something (but just incase.. there no real point in backing up the original!)
your backup should always be a good saving point to fall back on, so you would need to replace it everytime something was added or changed and tested to work correct (as far as you can see), i usually keep a few
when reinstalling ... keep in mind that 3.07 is out and i don t know if/when theme changes for your style will be released (i'm probaly gonna try the style codecanges this time instead of comparing the full release again, hoping this would make my life a little easier)
Dont forget the advice above with the background and logo prefixed, it's been tested somewhat, so i m sure it works without any puzzles (i m instrested to see how it looks when done so feel free to post me a link)
goodluck on whatever you deside to do
Edit: Style seems to be updated in silence
