Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!

Subject: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
I have files in CPanel, to be honest I don't know which to remove and which not to as I need to start again completely with installing this forum. Can anyone help please?

I am stuck on this:

Copy all phpBB XS files in one folder on your webserver (i.e. /forum/) and then launch the setup install/install.php (i.e. http://www.mysite.com/forum/install/install.php)

Sorry to sound dumb but where is that in Cpanel?

This is not in CPanel (do you mean ACP by that?). Just type in the URL and then follow the instructions on the screen. Download the config.php when prompted to choose what to do with it (just to avoid running into errors) and then upload it to your root directory.
Then follow the regular installation instructions from the readme.

I mean I have a half done old forum in my CPanel which I want to remove and install this one from scratch. I have no forum now at the moment at all so have no ACP either.

I thought everyone used it sorry.

Where else does everyone upload everything to?

I have a server at a German provider and for uploads I use a FTP programm.

So what is your current problem?

Subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
Well my host completely closed my forum on Friendz4life so I am having to start again from scratch. I can't use FTP, only CPanel but don't know how to do a clean install using that, only adding images, editing chat, etc. Did you have a look at the CPanel link?

I took a look at CPanel, however the Demo doesn't work from here. because it uses a different port.
Does CPanel support MySQL & PHP?

Can you upload files with CPanel? Or is that your main problem right now?

Subject: Re: Starting Completely From Scratch Help Please!
I can yes and it does support them but I have never installed a forum before and don't know where to start. I have had an offer to do it for me but this isn't for a few days and at the risk of sounding impatient, I need the forum now as none of my members have a forum to use now since my host shut it down.

Would it be OK to give you access to my CPanel for you to have a look and maybe see what I mean?

are you a noobie with cpanel?

I run a webhosting company with cpanel pro x, and am willing to help you :)

Cpanel yes it allows you to upload files and comes with a web editor included, if your host doesn't have this then its probably very old version of cpanel.

Cpanel supports mysql & php. It depends if the host even updates the php/mysql. Then to optimize your mysql it comes with phpmyadmin

If you need help 24/7 or around the clock with these kind of things consider switching to my webhosting plans. :)

Hi, no I'm not really a newbie, I know how to edit files, upload files etc but not how to start from scratch, ie installing a forum which is what I need to do.

Thanks a lot for the offer but I have paid hosting on a Gold plan with over another year left so can't pay for another host. It's just really frustrating, all of this help and I just don't know how to do it still.

Where to start? Upload all the files from the XS package!
Then you acces your domain (where the uploaded files are) and start the DB installation. If you go to your site for the first time, you're automaticly taken to the installation. From there it should be self explaining.
And have a look at the readme.

If you wish, I could take a closer look at CPanel. I shouldn't be to hard...

you need to CHMOD the files and remove any restrictions you set in cpanel
